Another dog question!
This is the same dog that also did the humping thing, she no longer humps but will find places to dig with her front paws, could be the couch, in the corner of a room, or on the bed. When she digs, she is hard at work, does she dig? Wow! She doesn't hear me when told to stop, I actually go over to her pull her front legs down and tell her to lay down.

1. Why scold your dog for being a dog? Give her a nice spot where she
can dig - when i see my pooch starting to dig, i put a messy stack of newspapers in the corner and let her dig and dig until she is beat. I think they are trying to fix themselves a little burrow -- its the same reason why a dog will circle three times before lying down -- to create a little nest. Remember, a tired dog is a happy dog.

2. The humping and digging must be tandem behaviors.
Mine does this too. She likes to bury things. If we give her a treat she will immediately want to go outside and bury it.

3. Dogs dig a bed in the wild....
Dogs also hump other dogs to establish rank in the pack. Does she lay on her back and spread her hind legs when you approach her? That is a sure sign that you have a higher rank in the pack then she does. I have six dogs (all related) and have noticed dogs have ways of doing things that don't make much sense to us humans.

4. Yep, I've got 3 large ones
and if you put down their food in the wrong order, none of them will eat.

5. I feed all six out of the same bowl....
They eat by rank, when the alpha male is done, the others can eat. (unless the REAL boss- alpha female is hungry)

6. Couldn't do that here
Ain't a bowl big enough to start with. (About 300 lbs of dogs) And Bailey will put a hurting on anyone stupid enough to even look at his bowl. About every 6 months Dot will try to grab something out of his bowl and I'll end up having to pry them apart with a couple of brooms. Good thing they're long haired or we'd have skin and blood flying.
