Taking suggestions for late December New Orleans activities
not necessarily involving drinking. Unfortunately, we're not staying as long as New Year's Eve, as hotel prices skyrocket then. Still, there ought to be plenty of fun stuff, right? Hotel is in the French Quarter. I've been before, Alice hasn't. I liked the Garden District & French Quarter. I think we can have fun sort of hanging out and drinking everything in (the atmosphere, not the Hurricanes), but am open for suggestions about specific fun stuff. I'm more museum-oriented; she's more design and architecture-oriented. We're both highly restaurant-oriented. We'll be there Mon night through Thursday night. Thoughts?

1. a few ideas
It is not a good museum town, really, but there is the D-Day museum and also a small art museum. If you have a car, check out Christmas in the Oaks at the City Park area:

You can also check out Al Copeland's Christmas lights, he has 1 million on his house at Folse Drive in Metairie. I forget the exact address but they say if you call the Copeland's restaurant, they can give you directions. Maybe don't call during the dinner rush though. I don't actually recommend this restaurant to eat at, sorry, Al!

The zoo and aquarium are good, and there is often a river cruise that runs between them.

2. In the French Quarter-
Visit the Louisiana State Museum in the Cabildo. It's on Jackson Square, next to the cathedral. http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/cabex.htm

On the other side of the cathedral is the The Presbytere. It houses the State's collection of paintings, portraiture, decorative art, antique clothing and historic photographs. http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/presbex.htm

On Esplanade Ave. (walking distance from the Quarter), the Old US Mint has been turned into a museum that tells the history of the mint, as well as a good exhibit on the history of New Orleans Jazz. http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/site/mintex.htm

Restaurants???? Where to start..... I like the Pelican Club. Of course you have to go to Antoine's, Brennans, NOLA (Emeril Legasse's place in the quarter), Court of Two Sisters, Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, Arnaud's...and the list could go on and on.

Now I'm jealous! I've had some wonderful times in New Orleans, and always love to get away there when I can. Have a great time!
