New junkies - here's some stories |
|
Slow boring day for News...so here's some stuff off the wire you may have missed today - I doubt the first one though.
(Iraq-Rumsfeld) (Audio: 101) The man serving Christmas Eve dinner to U-S troops near Baghdad today was none other than Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. During a 12-hour visit to Iraq, he offered words of praise and encouragement to U-S troops. Rumsfeld was trying to make a comeback from bad press he got when he fumbled a soldier's question about armoured protection on his last visit. Later he was criticized because his signature on letters of condolence to American military families was done by machine. (15)
(BC-Condom-Gifts) Wrap it up for someone you love. That's the message from health officials in Yukon handing out Christmas gift condoms after gonorrhea rates have spiked in the area. Officials are currently dealing with 41 cases of the sexually transmitted disease. In 2003, there were fewer than five cases of the infection in the territory. Condoms have been distributed around Whitehorse at youth and community centres and popular hangouts. (Whitehorse Star) (BC-Body-Found) A body was discovered this morning floating in the Nicola River in Merritt. Resident Frank Lines says police cars were surrounding the area earlier and a coroner was called to the scene. It is still unknown whether it's the body of a man or woman.
(Palestinian Elections) It's a surprisingly strong performance for the radical Hamas movement in local Palestinian elections. The preliminary results obtained today indicate a drop in popularity for the ruling Fatah movement. Next month will see the Palestinian president
(Transgendered Tiff) A Chicago Y-M-C-A director has been fired -- for allowing a trans-gender fashion show to overlap with an early morning children's swimming event. When parents arrived with their kids, some of them yelled sexual slurs against people attending the trans-gender event. Some scuffling broke out, but no arrests were made. (13) ---
