a question for homosexuals.
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 10:14 PM by gtp1976
Sorry, I couldn't think of a good thread title.

At what age did you realize you were possibly homosexual? The reason I ask is because I hear ignorant parents all the time worried that letting their small children (we'll say 9 or under just to use a number) play with toys usually associated with the other gender "will cause them to be gay/lesbian." I know this is crap and so does everyone else, but what I am wondering is this...

I am not sure when a child's sexuality is even developed. I doubt that sexuality or sexual preference has even developed at this age because most 9 year olds or under simply either don't know much about sex or aren't interested in it. If they are, there is probably some other factor influencing their behavior.

I am straight. I am not exactly sure when I knew I was straight because straight people are the majority and it never occurs to us that we are "the same" and not "different." I know that could sound offensive but I do not mean it that way. The reason I say it that way is because I've frequently heard homosexual folks say they didn't know what was up, but they knew there was something "different" about them. Does that make any sense?

2. I always knew I was different, just didn't know how to define it
As a little boy, I wanted to be with the other boys. Thats normal enough, but I knew I felt different about it then they did. I had a crush on my best friend in third grade, wanted to be around him all the time. Nothing sexual at the time of course, but knew I liked being with boys in a way other boys did not. About 12 I knew what my difference was. Hormones kicked in and I knew I wanted more than just friendship with guys. I fought it for years though due to my religous upbringing. Thats another story though.

(etc.) grade teachers, then eventually girls in my class, too.

I feel like I just always knew.

9. I was about 8 years old when I knew I was different.
I had a serious crush on one of the original Mouseketeers way back in the 1950's.

17. I thought that saying was....
its all fun and games until someone gets pregnant. I wasn't bothered by it, but it was a tad crude. Maybe thats why I wasn't asked to be a mod.

10. I guess I've known forever...
As soon as I started having sexual thoughts I knew that something was obviously different about me. Plus, my friends have always been girls, but I've never thought of them in a sexual way. Oh well. Lost my virginity @ 13 and never looked back!

20. Until about 22
I always knew I was never interested in girls, but I pretty much considered myself asexual until about the age of 22, and then at some point I admitted to myself that I'm not straight.
