Would it be immoral to give my son some Benadryl...
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 12:16 AM by Maddy McCall
so that he will GO TO SLEEP? :grr:

He's so excited and hyper that just watching him is exhausting.

Anyone else having similar problems on Christmas eve?

 :loveya: Merry Christmas, DU! :loveya:

And, on edit, I am just joking about the Benadryl. Now...where'd I put the Nyquil? Just kidding!!! :P

2. Just tell him that Santa won't come until he's asleep
If he stays up too long then Santa may not be able to fit your house in. That worked on my kids.

6. Same here
My son never wanted to sleep on Christmas Eve and I had work to do. We tried the Santa won't come unless you are asleep and it worked for a while. When my son was about 4, I just let him go to sleep in the big bed with Dad. Luckily, my sister was there to help me play Santa. How I miss those days, my son is now a teen, we open our presents on Christmas Eve and he sleeps in till at least 10 on Christmas morning.

4. immoral? no.
As much fun as giving him a strong cup of coffee? Also no.

But there's nothing wrong with benadryl for sleep ON RARE OCCASIONS. It's used all the time before non-invasive stuff like MRIs for young'uns. Parents hafta bring it in, tho - hospitals can't use stuff off-label without paperwork. ;-)

5. A good whallop to the back of the head is more quickly effective.
benadryl requires waiting for it to 'kick in'...

just kidding... MERRY CHRISTMAS!! :toast:

Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 12:50 AM by Pithlet
That should do it :) My 3 year old just now finally went to sleep, and it is a quarter to twelve my time. He's going to be a bear tomorrow, after all the excitement of presents wears off.

10. Mine just went to bed, too. Don't think he's asleep yet.
I have to bring a dirt bike in and put it under the tree as soon as he goes to sleep. Won't THAT be fun. :-)

12. Wow
I don't have anything that big, or anything that needs assembly this year, fortunately. We had to assemble a tricycle from a million little pieces late at night last Christmas Eve.

11. Mine's wise to the Santa gig.
He knows I am Santa. Still, through, we talk as if Santa's real, because he likes to pretend.

He's in bed now. Hoping he goes to sleep soon so I can bring the gift in. :-)

15. It wouldn't work on my computer, for some reason
We did leave out cookies, though, and plan on leaving out the crums on the plate as "evidence". This is the first year where he's really old enough to anticipate future events, and get all excited about Santa.

27. Mine didn't go to sleep until freakin' 12 something.
:grr:

I didn't try any helpful substances, partly cause we don't have any!

So now I'm wrapping/putting together like a fool.

Except for right now, when I'm avoiding it.

I'm sensing a theme with me lately.

29. I'm glad you're just joking . . .
but I don't think it's as much a matter of morality as ethics. I used to have a friend who gave her very challenging toddler son Robatussin to "calm him down." She called it "Robo-dosing."

He's on the tail end of a cold, with considerable congestion/allergy symptoms. So Benadryl did have two purposes....
