How old were you when you found out who santa wasnt real |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 02:29 AM by JohnKleeb
I was like 9. I was at my grandparents place and my grandfather accidently or maybe purposely told me. I had an easier time believing that the tooth fairy and the easter bunny weren't real but it was hard for me to accept Santa Claus wasn't because of the fact you meet santa claus, rather a guy dressed up like santa.

My parents would let me stay up late to watch the newcast, to find out where he was, and then I had to go to bed

in the 60s, the local weather guy had a little cutout Santa in his sleigh and he would place it on the map and show its location every hour or so on Christmas Eve. It was pretty cool as I recall.

I know that I was completely sure of it by the Christmas of 1992, and I was 10 at that time.

I think I always knew, but I'm not sure. I certainly don't remember any big letdown when I was presented with the facts.

23. I never believed in him |
|
but I thought if I admitted that I'd stop getting gifts. I didn't like being lied to so I'd ask difficult questions such as "how does he visit us if we don't have a chimney?" I once asked my Dad why Santa didn't bring food to all the starving kids in Ethiopia (keep in mind I was about five when "We are the World" came out). My mom finally admitted to me there was no Santa after somebody at school told my older brother. She was shocked that I took it so well, especially since I think my brother cried.

I felt like the stupidest kid in the world, the last one to find out, and I'm still living in infamy with my former in-laws for refusing to fool my son about Santa Claus. They like to say he didn't have a childhood.

That seems to be the average age, doesn't it? I was already having suspicions and then my older brother, who was close to 18, opened a gift from Santa and said, "Thanks, Mom.... I mean, thanks Santa!" with sort of a shit eating grin on his face. It all came together in that moment.
I wasn't at all devastated - in fact, it made so much sense that it just seemed funny to have believed as long as I did.

I never thought he was real; when you grow up with mentally ill parents and you worry constantly that your dad is gonna kill the entire family you don't care about such things. :o

He comes into my brain right after Thanksgiving, causing me to spend money on gifts for my family and loved ones. Then I have to pay off his bills.
