1. Let's party and start drinking now
Yelling at the kids comes later. Beating the wife after that.

<sarcasm off>

3. According to a Program I Saw Yesterday on The History Channel...
...no one knows for sure WHEN Jesus was born, if he was born at all. Estimates of his exact birth date (based on clues in the scriptures) range from mid-March through November. And there's no concensus on the year.

The reason that Christmas is celebrated on December 25th is a continuation of the Catholic Church' practice of placing their holidays on top of established pagan celebrations in their attempt to overtake paganism as the prominent religious practice. That's why Jeses birth is celebrated at the time of the pagan Winter Solstace holiday, and his resurrection is celebrated at the time of the pagan Spring holiday, called Easter. (Ever notice that the word "Easter" appears nowhere inthe Bible? It's a pagan name that was co-opted by the early Christians.)

The more I learn, the farther I move away from my Catholic upbringing.

7. That is exactly right
The Roman festival of Saturnalia (celebrating the birthday of the sun, rather than the son, lol) had many of its traditions co-opted by christians. Evergreens in homes, food and drink, presents for the young, and even opening the temples up for the poor and hungry... all stolen by christians so they could impose THEIR myths over the previous ones. It didn't happen overnight, cultural succession never does, but it's illustrative of how once people start believing in a myth in mass numbers, it becomes 'fact' to them.

The greatest biblical scholars are also the biggest skeptics and non-believers. Once you learn of the origin of most of the bible's writings, it just seems rehashed and tired after a point.

6. He was born a poor baby. Guess what he would have been back in the day...
You guessed right. Impoverished, oppressed and finally killed only to rise again and reign eternally. No hands in neocon's cold policies. Merry Christmas Jesus. We know who you are!
