Am I the only one that still enjoys the hell out of When Harry Met Sally?
I know it was formulaic as hell (or did it create the formula for a million other clones to follow?), but I still love it :).

I don't like Billy Crystal or Meg Ryan in much else, but they just worked well together in this movie.

It's just one of those movies that makes me laugh every time I see it :)

1. It's great.
I can only hope to have a relationship that sane someday.

2. I mean, this movie had the best dialog exchanges of any romantic comedy
I've ever seen :).

I love the little interludes with the old couples telling their relationship stories :)

3. I love it
It isn't that formulaic. It has a nice raw underside lacking in this genre. The deli scene alone is one of the 3 or 4 greatest comedy bits in cinema history. :-)

6. Yup, I agree on the deli scene completely, and the old lady's remark
at the end of the scene is what capped it ("I'll have what she's having").

By formulaic, like I kind of mentioned, it created the formula that so many others have followed (Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, etc.). Sadly, many of the followers also starred Meg Ryan, but she never quite matched her performance in When Harry Met Sally. (at least not in my opinion).

There are so many classic lines and scenes though.

9. That was Rob Reiner's Mom!
How can she help not being funny, all those years being married to Carl! :D

8. I'd have a hard time with that
as I can't FAKE it

BUT - that is a fun movie and I usually will sit down and watch it when it comes on.

5. Haven't seen the film since it first came out, but I really liked it then.
And I'm guessing I'd like it now.

7. I love the bits where they interview the elderly couples
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 09:15 PM by Lisa
I looked at my parents the other day (married since 1961, and still together even after plenty of bickering) -- yep, they'd fit into that lineup. Plus, they got married later on in life, just like Harry and Sally.

It's ironic that movies/shows which actually were pretty original get tagged with being cliches, just because they've been imitated so much.

10. the cool thing is...
Those are ACTORS playing the old couples. They tried it with real people and it didn't work! But it sure is convincing!

11. they should have gone to my folks!
Admittedly, they would have needed a hidden camera -- but on the occasions when I've gotten them to talk about their relationship (the prewar generation just doesn't spill its guts as readily as us young whippersnappers) they've sounded so much like people in the movie, it's eerie! They haven't seen the film yet, either ... when I finally did, years after it was released, people wondered why I was laughing so much during the "old people" segments.

12. Yup, the old couples really set the movie off well :)
And That was kind of my point about it creating a formula :)

It basically re-created the whole romantic comedy genre :)
