I had two glasses of Champagne and my whole Christmas Dinner is missing
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 10:42 AM by GingerSnaps
I served the employees, elderly and a few of the younger family-less singles Christmas dinner in my building last night.

It all started when I called downstairs to my doorman and asked him how many people were on duty and if they had eaten dinner. Two people were on duty and I knew that an elderly Irish Gentleman that i always talk to about Ireland was alone and would probably be sitting down in the lobby chatting with people. I took 3 humongous plates of food down and someone else was sitting in the lobby and I couldn't give the others food without asking this younger guy if he wanted a plate of food. I brought that down to the lobby and Mrs. Johnson was in the lobby. She is a sweet little old lady that must have been born 100 years ago. She knows everything about politics, civil rights and she can tell you about her ancestors slavery days and she knows that Bush is a threat to all countries. I love her she is one of the sweetest ladies that I have ever met. I always give her cookies, candy or whatever I have because I never had a grandma and she is one kind person. So I went back upstairs and I made her a special plate of softer food. When I got back down several more people were in the lobby, and then more people showed up and I ran out of sides and I started making turkey sandwich's.

Shsssh...I am glad that they were all hungry. Some of them might not be poor but they do not have family and it warms my heart that they were all in the lobby talking to each other and eating my Christmas dinner.

The whole time all I wanted to do was feed the young doorman, janitor and elderly Irish man. I didn't think that Mrs Johnson would be around because sometimes she has family stop by. She tells us the only time that they stop by is to borrow cash.

I was in my pj's and I thought that I could get off of the elevator and make a run for the security desk and get back on the elevator without anyone noticing.

I feel good that I don't have to worry about the leftover turkey in my fridge and I was able to provide a few people with Christmas Dinner that didn't have family in my building. I am glad that I had a package of nice paper plates to serve them on.

I also got rid of two whole pies and a croquembouche which might have put about 10 pounds on my rear end alone :D

2. That is so cool!
That had to leave you with a very good feeling, and I'm sure they all appreciated it (the food and spontaneity {jammies}).

BTW, I hope you had a nice Christmas.

I must have looked like a slob but I didn't care :D

I had a better Christmas because I got to feed a few of the lonely people in my building.

5. What a kind and generous act on your part! I don't think that you're
missing anything. What you did more than replaces a Christmas dinner. You displayed the kind of decency and charity that we should all be showing at Christmas.

8. Some of you people have family and some of us don't
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 11:18 AM by GingerSnaps
We have to invent family and find ways to feel like another year will be a better year for all around.

My Dad has dementia and he can't swallow food. My freeper sister is on a diet. Better to give the food away than to toss it down the garbage shoot.

My Building has a feeling of family even if most of us don't have any.

Animosity, hate and everything that goes along with it doesn't exists in my life. When someone finds that then they can do better as a human being and try to make the world a better place to live in.

I have to make cookies for 17 people that work in my building and I will give them out tomorrow. My building has my back and I want them to know how much I appreciate them and everything that they have done for me. If I need a light bulb changed they change it, if I want them to change my shower head they change it and they watch out for my Dad when I am not home.

We are family even if we are not blood relatives.
