What Is With My Cat?
I've had her for over ten years, we've lived in the same house for over nine and a half. Not much has changed. She's always been shy of strangers, but very sweet to us. Usually, she sleeps in our bed either curled against my chest or between my husband's feet.

But last night, she came into the bedroom with me, jumped up on the bed and then jumped off to crawl under it (like she sometimes does when some one comes to visit, but it was like midnight, we had no company). So I pick her up and put her back on the bed, and she starts freaking out, staring at the ceiling fan with a terrified look. I had my husband come turn it off, but she was still struggling, so I let her go and she bolted out of the room.

This morning, I brought her food dish in the bedroom (we give her breakfast in our bedroom 'cos our other cat is very aggressive about food & would push her away) and she was reluctant to come into the bedroom to eat.

We have ceiling fans in just about every room (we're in Orlando, Florida). And I don't get it, all this time, why is she scared now?

2. That's possible
The kitty could also be sick.

3. Maybe your bedroom is haunted.
Try smudging with burning sage and saying a purifying prayer of your preferred denomination.

It *does* sound like she's just got an attack of the cat-weird-outs. They all act weird sometimes. Maybe the ceiling fan is starting to go out and it's making a noise she doesn't like but only she can hear?

4. How much attic space do you have?
Is it possible that it's not the fan per se but something above the fan? Like some local wildlife in the attic? You'd think you'd hear a large critter like a possum or an owl thumping around up there, but that's not necessarily the case.

5. I've Thought About That
But then during Hurricane Charley she was barely phased during the scraping sounds in which it sounded like some one was walking on our roof (instead it was shingles being torn off). But then she freaked when the insurance adjuster was checking the damage.

And, before Charley took down the large oak tree outside our bedroom window, squirrels used to jump on our roof and scamper about all the time.

But, anyway, she now seems freaked out when the ceiling fan is on in any room. She is wary when it is off.

6. They do wierd out -

I read a comedy piece sometime ago about how this cat would see greebles dripping though the cieling, so it would attack them - all cute and hilarious, but it freaks me out when you see your cat actually spaz like that.

Could be physical...Is she in heat? Has she been drinking he water/eating? You might want to clean the box and monitor to see if she is using it (no blockages, or conversely, going too much). Something bite her? Do you get snakes or scorpions in the house? I lived in Merritt Island and that happened. Probably stuff you've already ruled out I guess by this time. Good luck.

on edit - spelling

7. My cats periodically see "things" that I don't.
Worrisome, but being as I am not particularly psychic, it doesn't bother me.

8. Double-check for any injuries
Physical problems can alter their behavior, but aren't always obvious.
Hope she's ok.

11. Check your fan.
Animals are strange about survival. Make sure the fan isn't unstable. After that, I'd ask the Vet.
