I have Phantom Handle Syndrome.
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 08:51 PM by NightTrain
It just occurred to me tonight while I was eating at a restaurant. When I went to the bathroom, I reached for the urinal's handle, only to find it wasn't there because it's one of those toilets that flushes automatically. That's happened to me quite a few times, so I decided to name the phenomenon. I call it "Phantom Handle Syndrome."

You know, I really miss the fun of flushing a toilet myself!

1. What was the last thing your hand touched before reaching?

That is why the handles are vanishing! No OCD here, but I know plenty of folks who suffer from it..

2. Not PMSD?
When I first read your title, I thought you might be referring to this:

3. Yes!
Sometimes i can't get them to flush, and i have to do a dance in front of them to get it to work. Inevitably, someone always walks in thinking i'm nuts.

4. Would it be in the same group as the Phantom Light Switch Syndrome?
I constantly try to turn my kitchen light on in the same spot that my house had the switch but it's not in the same place. I feel like an idiot every time I touch the wall as I enter the kitchen and I realize that my switch is located on the other wall. I have also tried to flush a toilet and I reached up to pull the flusher chain down and I realized that I was in the wrong country :D

6. I have the opposite.
I'm so used to the toilet at work, which flushes as soon as I stand up, that I pause at normal toilets, wondering for a second why the damn thing isn't flushing, then I remember it's one of those old-fashioned manual doo-hickies.

7. This sort of happens to me.
We have sensors on the faucets at work, and I've been in public restrooms where I've put my hands under the spigot and wonder..."Gee, why no water, yet?"
