3. Oh, just the usual stuff. One of my neices started a conversation |
|
with my f-i-l about how "liberals hate Jesus", and it went downhill from there. I had to go upstairs and sit in a dark room for awhile to avoid starting an ugly confrontational shouting match.

I heard a couple of those "at least I can say Merry Christmas here!" It's even polluting some of my more sensible family members.

waste. If they had, I would have told them not to buy into Bill O'Reilly's perverted little persecution fantasies.

5. Ah, such holiday joy............. |
|
I avoided this years gathering of the right wing nut cases on (friends of my mother-in-law). Good thing too, because I might have snapped if someone said anything about how the year ended so well or how we'll be blessed with four more great years. GRRRRRRR. I've been very tolerant for the last 17 years but I doubt I can take anymore.

I didn't want to hear any of the family's right-wing hammerheads give thanks for "our glorious, divinely anointed leader, George W. Bush!"

If anyone ever says something like that to me I'll simply ask, "so I gather that you also believe that God chose Bill Clinton too?"

when the Jesus praise started. but actually a minute before that they had been predicting a draft and bemoaning the fact that their mid thirties friends were being called back. i was shocked to hear them say, 'there's gonna be a draft'. well, i said, looking at their two toddler boys, we're gonna be in the mideast for DECADES!

13. My deepest empathy for you. |
|
I appreciate the patience and tact that you exhibited.
I, too, Sir, had to spend time with the Fundie pro-Bush (traditional to the max) in-laws. We met them in Laughlin, Nevada (neutral territory). We had polite dinners. No politics or religion spoken.
I had told my husband that if Papa uttered the word, 'towel head,' I was going to get up and walk away - with our daughter. I thought everything went well.
It wasn't until we were on our way home that my husband disclosed that he had said it when I wasn't looking or listening, and he was barely paying attention (he's far from positive about what he heard - so he let it go ... they had friends there too).
Oh, well! We've seen them for the year!

i had a cousin tell me how they did "partial birth abortions", and for one, it was really really horrible, and i didn't quite believe it, although i was willing to hear what she had to say...then i asked "where did you hear this?" and she said "church" and i just kinda held my breath and walked away...
cuz damn...i can't believe the stupidity and ignorance of members of my family...
ugh
