Anyone awesome at web searching and feeling bored? |
|
I saw a statistic a few months ago, done by some media research group, that did a study on the news last year. They reported some ridiculously low number, like only 14% of what was reported on the news was actual fact based reporting without opinion interjected. I need to find that study.
And yes...that dismal amount of information is all I have to go on. :(

You can find it at www.mediaresearch.org/biasbasics/welcome.asp Another place to find such research is the Pew Research Center: http://people-press.org/

On Edit: Wait the media research center is a conservative group "On October 1, 1987, a group of young determined conservatives set out to not only prove - through sound scientific research - that liberal bias in the media does exist and undermines traditional American values, but also to neutralize its impact on the American political scene. What they launched that fall is the now acclaimed --- Media Research Center (MRC). "
The study I'm looking for wasn't from a conservative group, I don't think it was politically affiliated. It just had statistics on the trend towards opinion based reporting.

10. I wasn't trying to bother you.. |

I am actually looking for a non-politically affiliated research group that did this particular study.
"Here's some more -- didn't know you only wanted liberal sites."
But you are on a democratic web site...conservative based reporting links aren't going to be well received ..it's to be expected.
Thanks for trying I'm sure I'll find it.

12. You aren't bothering me. |

But the statistics you mention are most often used by conservatives to point out that there is a "liberal media bias." It has to be an analysis study -- this could come from communication studies, such as academic ones. There are, to be honest, so many studies like this that it will be difficult to pinpoint the one you want.

13. Oh O.k. I see where you're coming from |

This study was trying to point out the opposite, that we no longer have actual fact based reporting and it's been replaced with talking points programming masquerading as news programs. You know like MSNBC and Fox news, that claim to be 24 hour news channels but instead spend a disproportionate amount of time projecting a certain view point.
I thought it was the Project for Excellence in Journalism but I can't find it on their site. I need reliable statistics to point out how we no longer have a free press. Not just the "who owns what numbers" but how little actual fact based reporting is happening.
I'll keep looking. Thanks.

11. I'll have to go read that study. (rant) |
|
I'm sure it's correct. Just the crummy local news is less than 20 minutes content after commercials and that's <60%. Throw in the sports, weather, talking head banter, entertainment crap, and lead-ins & intros and the like - ya got nothing.
