What movie do you think reflects the feeling of the present?
I was watching my "Empire Strikes Back" DVD the other day, and realized how much our current situation is like this movie. 1984 and Equilibrium come to mind a bit, but that to me would be more what the future would be like if we continue on the current path.

20. Chilling, isn't it?
I put that in the top ten thread earlier.

And I got to thinking how it seems more relevent today then it did back then. What the hell is going on? Why are people getting even more stupid?

10. I've been reading
Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix, and it is so similar to our times now. The bad wizards are hiding the truth, keeping it out of newspapers, making up stories, etc. and the good people are fighting to tell the truth. The bad people control the media and the ministry of magic. It struck me as kinda weird.

12. City of Hope by John Sayles
Its set in the 80s (the more things change...) and there really isnt anything hopeful about.

It interweaves the tales of about 20 characters (in Altmanesque fashion) and focuses on mental illness, unions, unemployment; theft; relationships and numerous others.

It also has one of the most downbeat endings of any film I have ever seen.

14. Lord of the Rings
Especially these words:

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this
had happened.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for
them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time
that is given to us.

It's not a good thing, but each time I see those craven Orchs,
I can't help but think of the Bush-ites.

15. "1983"
OK, that movie does not exist. But if someone were to write a screenplay prequel to "1984", it would pretty much sum it up.
