What do you do when there's a REALLY obvious disruptor

and you've hit alert on all their really disgusting posts (I mean HORRIBLY disgusting) and sent PMs to all the mods in that forum, but there doesn't seem to be anyone awake this time of the morning?

I didn't see anyone engaging the disruptor, so perhaps he will soon tire and leave.

and thank you to whichever mod was deleting his crap. They were moving FAST. I was in advanced search and literally hit refresh three times and his posts just disappeared more and more each time until they were gone, within minutes.

even at this hour. I only think I've ever done it three times in 8000 posts, so I only have done it when I'm really sure it's been really bad, as you say, but the mods came through for me, even at this ghastly hour.:shrug:

And even then I still feel guilty, but that's my problem, not yours. LOL! But I have found some real egregious posts and just can't believe them. The one that sticks in my mind was made, early on in my time on DU, by some young guy, who objected to some thread not being deleted because he said he'd had relatives killed in concentration camps. But he went totally nutty and wrote this elaborate post, which must have taken him ages, with rows and rows of emoticons. I just caught sight of it, and my immediate response was to tell him that the word "bigots" which he had used, liberally, throughout his post, was spelled with only one G. But, just as quickly, it was gone. So, in my experience, the mods work fairly quickly. I never did alert on that one, since I was totally in shock, but I have on three others, which were gone in minutes. Hey, what can I tell you, I'm a liberal, and I'm used to putting up with a lot, LOL! But I do alert on obvious Freepers on DU.:shrug:

Here are some of the tools you can use if you find yourself in a similar situation:

1) Make sure to send an alert (as you did), so we know about it.

2) Remember that you have an 'ignore' function which you can use (the fallen-over guy with the 'z's next to the poster's name).

3) If you feel the poster is disruptive, there's no need to engage someone in conversation if you don't want to.

4) If you don't feel the moderators have resolved the issue to your satisfaction, the proper forum for commenting on how the forums are moderated is Ask the Administrators forum (sometimes also referred to as ATA) as linked to above.
