tech help needed
Ms Uly gave me a 128Mb Cruzer Mini flash drive for Christmas. It's not supposed to need a driver for Win2k, which is what I have on my desktop, but the machine keeps wanting to install a driver for it. Of course, there is none. When I cancel out of the wizard, W2K still knows that there's a removable drive there, but won't let me access it.

Any ideas? I updated the Windows last night. TIA. It works perfectly on her XP machine, btw.

There's no native driver in Windows 2000, just XP.

5. Someone told me they got the driver to work on Win2k
I'll ask if he had to tweak the driver.

Looks like the drive isn't very Win2k friendly:

I did a search in Google groups, and several people had to reinstall Win2k with the drive attached in order to get it to work. My guess is that your Win2k installation doesn't have the drivers needed for USB removable storage devices in your WINNT\SYSTEM directory.

Try installing it manually, using the SCSI/RAID device option, you'll need the Win2k installation CD.

If not, try logging in as administrator to see if it makes a difference.

4. The problem may be the USB port
the blurbs on this say it uses USB 2.0. You may have USB 1.1. Try updating your USB drivers, if possible.

7. Good point
Get the specs to the motherboard and see if there are updated USB drivers for the ports.

Some mobo manufacturers include embedded updates on firmware updates.

9. a friend built the machine for me about three years ago.
I have no idea what the mb specs are. :(

The driver is from VIA, 1999 - probably 1.1? Where can I find an update?

10. I dunno, it shouldn't be a problem
USB 2.0 devices work with 1.1 ports, they just don't transfer as fast.
