I just want to say I don't care how any of you choose to live. |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 06:20 PM by Bouncy Ball
I don't care if you choose to be single your whole life, I don't care if you are gay and want to get married (in fact, I support you in that), I don't care if you are a threesome who has found happiness together (I cyber-know someone like that and they are VERY happy), I don't care if you have chosen not to have children, I don't care if you have one child, I don't care if you have seven kids.
I don't care if your cats or dogs are your "babies," I don't care if you have a happy platonic living arrangement with a roommate, I don't care if you live with your parents until you are 58 years old.
As long as no one is hurting anyone and everyone's happy, what is it any of my business? Who would I be to judge?
(Had a woman today ASSume that because I have an only child she MUST be spoiled. GRRRRr, sheckin freshing sommonabiscuit eater #$%*($*) WHY is my family size ANY of anyone's business????

4. Yeah I didn't mean "I don't care" |
|
that way. I meant it's none of my business and I don't judge anyone for how they choose to live. As long as they aren't hurting anyone it's none of my business.
I SUPPORT people being able to live as they choose without the snarky judgement of others.

and I only have one child as well (unless you include my hubby...) and I DO spoil my son...because I CAN!
He still knows all his manners and still has responsiblities (and is volunteering at a childcare center over the winter break).
But I spoil him silly...and I DON'T CARE who says what about it...piss off and yell at someone who is being mean to their kid...I'm busy playing video games all day with mine and then we're gonna bake cookies and EAT THEM FOR SUPPER!!!!
BAH!

2. Don't you hate that, about "you must spoil your only child"? |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 06:23 PM by tjdee
Usually I get it because she's well behaved, polite, and shares with other kids.
That is CLEARLY because I spoil her at home. :eyes:
Oh--and I care about other people's families because sometimes I am quite jealous!

like kids with siblings automatically have some kind of immunity to being spoiled. There are PLENTY of kids with siblings who are spoiled.
Mine isn't because we haven't raised her that way. Had we had ten kids, they wouldn't be spoiled either, because we just don't raise kids to let them do whatever the hell they want and have whatever the hell they want. Spoiled implies complete lack of limits which implies REALLY bad parenting and I resent that anyone would ASSume all those things simply based on the fact that we CHOSE to have one child.

I didn't mean I literally don't care. I meant it's none of my business how any person chooses to live, as long as they aren't harming others.

She was so damn snarky about it, too. We are PERFECTLY happy with the family size we have and don't need people's nosy-ass judgements.

I think the biggest part of being a Democrat, for me, is that I wish to leave other people in peace and not burden them with my judgement.

18. I'm an only child myself ... |
|
I remember being criticized in grade school by other students -- and even my teacher -- about why my parents didn't have more kids. (And when I mentioned that my mom might not be able to have more children for medical reasons, one person went so far as to say that my parents were "irresponsible" not to adopt!)
This was in the 1970s. Luckily, smaller-sized families have become a lot more common.
I agree that family size (how many, or how few, kids) is nobody else's business!
Barbara Bush, on national TV, once made a snide comment about onlies being spoiled ... right in front of her daughter-in-law Laura. Not great judgement on her part, since by my calculations, more than 60 million Americans are onlies or parents of onlies.

we once had a woman ask why we moved "here" (in the neighborhood) (since we don't have kids) - so many people just don't plain think.

i don't have any children yet. But I did encourage my bro & sis in law to have another. my niece is the apple of my eye, but sooo painfully shy - I encouraged them to have a little brother or sister for her. probably not the best advice i ever gave.

Actually, my sister-in-law is pregnant now and I'm really happy. Just made me think back to how I was worried about her being an only child and maybe that why she had such problems interacting w/ others. I was probably overreacting.

I, too, am the parent of an only child. Once during a parent teacher meeting the teacher said, "I never guessed Ashley was an only child, she's so well adjusted." I asked her if most of the children she deals with who have behavioral problems were only children. She said, "well, no, they're not." I sat there waiting for her to explain her comment, she never did.
