|
PLEASE for the LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, have 20 items or less. I sat behind an idiot with 100 items in a busy store today. It was ridiculous. He chose today and that express lane to stock up on his diet 7up and Diet Dr. Pepper. Stupid bastard. Duckie

Hell, it'd almost be as easy to find a cashier under 30 who knows how to count too... And I doubt they'd be any more considerate if they were paid $30/he, though given how stressful a cshier's job is, $15/hr is hardly "too much pay".

22. As a grocery checker, I've seen it all |
|
One day a woman came up to the express lane with about $400 worth of groceries in her cart - she was pissed because there were lines at the other checkstands (they weren't ridiculously long either). She began plopping all her stuff on my belt and told me loudly, "I'm not waiting in that line and you WILL ring me up!"
I probably would have had she not said that - there was another express open and I didn't have a line. But she was so arrogant and obnoxious that I told her pleasantly, "Oh, no I won't!" signed off the register and left. I didn't get in trouble either because the manager saw the whole thing.

23. I hate them, and I try to give them dirty looks, and I ask the clerk why |
|
did they allow that. The clerks can't really tell them to get out of the line and get in another line. What they should do is make the rule so that in those lines you can only buy as much as you can fit in a small, hand carried basket. Then the basket has to fit through an opening, like the way they check your carry-on luggage for the size requirement at the airport.

And the checker could politely say, "I'm sorry, this register will only allow 20 items to be sold at one time. You'll have to get back in line, behind those people, if you want to buy the other 20 items."

28. Checkout line annoyances... |
|
people arguing or making a big deal over a few cents overcharge on the receipt (then it turns out they were wrong... as in they misread the sales flyer).
People in front of me who have one or two small items in their hands. I have a basket of a dozen items that I start putting on the conveyor belt. The belt starts moving before the other person gives their items to the cashier. My items are moving towards the front and the idiot ahead of me starts frantically trying to shove my items back. They give me a dirty look because it's creating a problem for them (like... maybe they should have placed their items on the belt to begin with?).
Person realizes that they forget to get something then leaves full unattended cart in check out line while they go and find the forgotten item (I got into a big argument with some woman one time when she left her cart and I moved it out of the way so I could pay for my items).
Supermarkets with a "12 items or fewer" and a "15 items or fewer" check out line (why a 3 item difference?)

Pennsylvania has some odd tax rules, but there have been times I've been tempted to lean over and hand the person (who inevitably has one of the squeeze-it change purses) $.10 just to get the line moving.
I understand the need to be frugal, but it's $.10, not $1.

How about the person that spreads their 9 items ALL OVER the belt so you can't put your stuff down. Holy smokes, gather your things closer so others can use the damn thing, too.
Or those that are buying 30 things...in 3 10 item lots. Sure some folks will shop for others and need receipts, but get thee into a regular line, ya bastard.
Or those that have no idea what "personal space" is. Damn it, man, step off of me and quit breathing down my neck. And don't touch my shit! I plan on eating that later.
Lastly, leaking raw meat packages conveyer belted and scanned leaving goo all over everything. Yeah, thanks. It gets on the belt, scanner, the checker's hands, etc. Now your meaty death is all over my stuff.
Thanks for letting me get that out.

41. my list of annoyances |
|
1) Despite a sign that says "Cash Only" some people will still whip out their check book... and then have to do more digging to get their driver's license/ID.
2) Senior couples getting into the 12 & less lane with 25 total items that they divide up into groups of 12 and then 13. (I'm sure it is not only seniors, but I have only seen it with seniors)
3) People who act like they are surprised they have to pay - after everything is rung up & bagged (by the cashier or bagger, of course), they then start getting their wallet out or rummaging through their purse to get the money!

cases of chips, if the soda is all the same type and the chips are all the same type then to check out 19 different items.
You would scan one case of soda and then key x's 50 and key x's 25 and that would be all you had to do...

My wife and I had some yoyo with <10 items get pissed at us for having a full cart when we were in the full cart line! There was a short line for the express laneS (plural) and he got behind us even though he could see we had a really full cart. When my wife pulled out her coupons for the checker he about had a cow and made a big show of taking his stuff off the belt and moving to the express lanes.
Hey pinhead, we were in the right line, and I'm not ignoring $20.00 in coupons just because you can't figure out that an express line with 4 people holding a couple of itms each will move faster than a regular line with a couple with an overflowing cart!

I kept trying to explain that it wasn't the express line and I even pointed to the real express line. He wouldn't hear it. He yelled for a manager who then also tried to explain it to him. It was almost comical. If my stuff had not already been on the belt, I'd have let him go ahead!

Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 04:45 PM by GloriaSmith
I get so irritated at people who linger over the five different choices of creamed corn while their damn cart is in the middle of the aisle and I can't get through! Having too many items in the express lane gets to me too. And if you're going to let that person cut in front of you because s/he only has a few items, make sure I'm not waiting in line behind you. A little bit of courtesy goes a long way...probably because it's so rare these days.
Oh, and since I'm on the subject, please don't write a check in the express line, or if you absolutely have to, then atleast have everything but the amount written on the check (including phone number and drivers license number, etc) by the time you reach the cashier. It's called "express" for a reason!
I have grocery store issues. lol
on edit: and the grocery store is NOT a park and it is NOT Chuck E Cheese so keep your kids from running all over the place!
