Anyone Recall Fletcher's Castoria?
To my surprise I found out this vile concoction is still available.

I still have vivid memories of being spooned this horrible stuff. To this day I get the urge to toss up at the slightest whiff of root beer.

1. Maybe that's why I hate root beer
I know they gave me that stuff as a kid, but I don't remember the taste or smell (lucky me I guess!)...

My sister had to take it recently. Wretched stuff.

4. omg Fenris -
on first skim of your reply, I thought you wrote, "My sister had to take it RECTALLY."

Oy. Glad I reread that. Although the rectal application is probably alot more pain free. :puke:

5. Root beer-flavored castor oil?
Does sound vile.

My Mom when I was 11 or 12 bought from the Watkins guy some mint-flavored cod liver oil. (urp) (gag)

6. Don't Get Me Started on Cod Liver Oil Either!
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 10:16 PM by Sporadicus
and yes, I did get the mint-flavored kind...one bottle's worth. My mother decided it wasn't worthwhile if I regurgitated it three seconds after swallowing it.

On edit: Castoria doesn't have any castor oil (which I thought it did, until I read the list of ingredients).

Active Ingredient:
Senna concentrate 33.3 mg/mL

Inactive Ingredients: citric acid, flavor, glycerin, methylparaben, propylparaben, purified water, sodium benzoate, sucrose.

Its purpose is ostensibly for relief from constipation, but my mother administered it for a variety of ailments.

7. Yeah, that did it for my Mom too...
When my little sister puked all over my Mom, a few seconds after taking that stuff.

8. Omigod! That much senna! I'm surprised

it didn't kill some kids by dehydrating them with diarrhea.

I never had to take it so I don't know what it tastes like.

You can get cod liver oil in capsules now. Probably really good for you.
