The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there But a B or an F or an M will appear And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a fo And then I say the name again with an F very plain and a fee fy and a mo And then I say the name again with an M this time
*snip*
But if the first two letters are ever the same, I drop them both and say the name like Bob, Bob drop the B's Bo ob For Fred, Fred drop the F's Fo red For Mary, Mary drop the M's Mo ary That's the only rule that is contrary.
so, clearly, it's fretzel
:D

12. according to the "rules" |
|
of the song, the first letter of the name is dropped, not the first two letters of the name.
It could be Bhirley, Fhirley & Mhirley :)
Later in the song Arnold kind of breaks all the "rules" though. I guess she should have paid more attention to her own "rules." :D
Let's do Chuck! :7

13. No, you misunderstand |
|
She's saying that when the first two letters are the same as the letters in the song you're supposed to replace them with. Fred starts with F so you can't replace it with F so you just drop the F, and get red. If it was Fanny, you'd get anny; but if it were Franny, you'd get ranny.
Bob Bob bo "ob", banana fanna fo fob
Or
Fred Fred bo bed, banana fanna fo "red",
P isn't one of the letters in the song, so you drop them both and it's fetzel. Just like with Shirley.

How come with Fred you're dropping one letter but with Pretzel you're dropping two?
With Fred you should drop both F's the F in Fred, and the F you would replace it with, so you get red.
Fred Fred bo Bred Bonana fanna fo red
Since P isn't one of the replacement letters, you don't drop"both" P's, you only drop the one p and replace it with a B F and M, so:
Pretzel Pretzel bo Bretzel Bonana fanna fo Fretzel Fee fy mo Mretzel Pretzel.
:D

You're applying the B, F & M rule to all the other names that don't start with B, F or M. It's not the way it works. My husband's name is Scott, you drop the SC. You couldn't even say fcott.

I didn't write the "rules" of that silly song, but at least I'm using them as they exist.
You're arbitrarily deciding to drop 2nd letters in names that would become difficult or impossible to pronounce, even though the "rules" never say anything about dropping second letters of the name.
If the first two letters are ever the same, I drop them both and say the name
Bob - starts with a B, the replacing B also gets dropped, so it becomes ob Fob & Mob
Fred - starts with an F, the replacing F also gets dropped so it becomes Bred red & Mred
Mary - starts with an M, the replacing M also gets dropped so it becomes Bary Fary & ary
Pretzel - starts with a P, simply gets dropped and replaced so it becomes Bretzel Fretzel & Mretzel - there is no "rule" that says if the resulting name is difficult to pronounce you get to drop the second letter. If you have complaints about the "rules" talk to Shirley Ellis, not me.
I'm right, you're wrong, it's settled you win. :)
