OK, I installed service pack 2 and now I enjoy at least two or three BSOD messages a day. Oh, boy!

I hate you Bill Gates.

Did you run a FULL AdWare/Spyware scan and virus scan, as well as clean up your registry and HDD before you did this update? I do all these things and I never have these problems with my customer's machines.

Search back in my posts in the computer forum and there are instructions(quite detailed) on how to do this.

The method works. As I said: I never have problems with SP2 upgrades. I just prepare.

8. Run Adaware SE and Spybot...
Then, shut down all of that crap that is running in your system tray, like anything with the name NORTON attached.

I have updated more than 50 machines and have had no problems whatsoever.

11. there are exactly two different reports for SP2
1) "Works Great! No prob, Bob. Just fiddled here and there a little and-SUWEEEEEEET!"

2) "It sucks. BSOD. Much slower running. Took me 80 hours to download."

I've decided, based on the way my life has gone thus far, the natural instability of my system as a whole, to not do SP2. I won't tie up my high-speed connection for an hour downloading the faulty shit; I won't go to Office Depot or Staples and pick up a free disk.

I have gotten around the problems that SP2 purportedly fixes by using Mozilla FireFox, Thunderbird and the Avant Browser.

You can system restore and ditch the apparent hell that is SP2.
Then go here: http://www.avantbrowser.com/ and/or here: http://www.mozilla.org/ for the protection that should have been built in to your OS before it was released to the public.

Spybot AND AdAware

15. I have all those and Spysweeper and NAV-
ditching the ZA though-causes my occasional system reboot, as far as I can tell. I'm going with a different firewall soon.
