Seriously, I live in CA and there are bastard earthquakes all the time. They're mostly weak but, occasionally, a big, scary one hits. It's nature. No matter where we live, we have to face natural disasters. They're a terrifying reminder of how small we really are.

It might not have been made, and certainly this stress was building in those rocks for millennia, but still happened sooner than it might have because of glacial melting causing the earth to wobble...
