So, I keep getting these calls from the "Dove Foundation"
and naturally, as my Caller ID tells me who they are, I ignore them; I don't even pick up the phone. So, they keep calling, day after day, after day after...

This evening, I did a little search for DF and sure enough, instant hit. The Dove Foundation is a happy little group of censors of movies, television, and video games for their Family Values audience.

I got this from their website:

Profanity as a ratings tool

Crude language is the most common offensive ingredient found in G and PG movies. Foul words are often used as pawns in the movie ratings process. Damn and Hell are considered expletives rather than profanities and are commonly found in movies of every ratings category, as well as many prime time network television programs. As for the MPAA ratings, one or two passive uses of the F-word as an adjective is acceptable in a PG movie, but using it as a verb gets a PG-13 rating. Terms using the names of God or Jesus are gradually losing their unacceptability by film makers and are now considered sophisticated terms of expression instead of profanities. In many cases profanities such as “G-- D---“ or “Jesus” are used to ‘upgrade’ an otherwise wholesome movie from a G to a PG rating. Not long ago, those same words would have guaranteed an R-rating.

Dove makes certain allowances for rough language too. If a film meets Dove Standards in every respect but contains some crude language, we approve that title for audiences over age 12. On the other hand, a movie that has a redeeming message in principle, but violates God’s commandment by taking His name in vain, will not receive the Dove Seal. God does not move His standard, and we feel that we should abide by the same rules. MPAA president, Jack Valenti declares that their ratings “reflect the changing morays of society.”

"Morays", eh? We gotta worry about eels now? Nevermind. I digress.

My point in posting this is to solicit opinion. I don't intend to be totally rude, crude and disgusting when I do take their next call, but I do mean to be pointed about getting rid of them beyond the usual, "Please put me on your Do-Not-Call list." Yes, I'm already on the national one, but charities are exempt. :::Sigh::: Would that that were otherwise.

Any thoughts, DUers?

1. Gorsh... how tempting!!
I'd have a tough time not telling 'em that not to call me ever again without being crude (in THEIR terms, anyway).

Are you wanting to be pointed, but censoring YOURSELF in your response? Me? I don't think that I wouldn't bother, I'd probably let 'em have it. But then again, I don't think that the Great Spirit cares if I say something like g--d---... but that is just MY belief.

...but this kind of 'family values' crap intruding into my home disturbs me. They have no IDEA who they're calling in my case. They Definitely have the Wrong Number when they've got mine.

:)

I'd like to stop short of saying "you Must be fucking Kidding, calling ME for that." But should I?

:silly:

3. a simple...
"I have no interest in your cause. Indeed I find it ridiculous. Take me off of your call list, and if you call me again I will report you and your organization (employer) will have to pay fines for violating the law.

*not sure if this is how the "nocall" list works regarding non profits... but would state it anyhow. They really don't want trouble for their client.*

4. Why not?
Like I said, why censor yourself when you completely disagree with them pushing for it?!

I was thinking along the lines of "Jesus Christ, don't you people have anything better to do with your time? Take me off your damn call list and stop harrassing me."... LOL

8. Harrassing about covers it.
When you're trying to solicit money over the phone, and you KNOW that Caller ID, Call Intercept and such exist...wouldn't you get the message when no matter what time of day you call or how many days you call, NOBODY picks up the damned phone!

Sorry...had to get that out of my system. Thanks. :)
