Wow! I'm invisible!
seem to be good at speaking/posting and killing threads or just getting no responses. Thought that it might be cool to look at the bright side... invisible - just like in the movies...

what mischief should I do first in this invisible state?

29. don't need to ... would guess that some of the infighting
results in the pushout I describe above...

If you want to read something that explains the concept (and rings true to my work in various cities with various schools) read Michelle Fine's "The Framing of Dropout" (I think that is the title, written either in the late eighties or early nineties... a description how school politics leads to policies that lead to even "well intended" educators to actually lead to pushing kids out of school. Lots of unintended consequences/tragedies unfold daily in urban schools

She gets married and divorced and married a lot. I just added the Cougar Mellencamp for humorous effect.

Her father was Dean of the U of TX. Her first husband (Snotty and his FDA brother's dad) was one of LBJ's lawyers, and was the source of the History Channel piece stating LBJ was part of JFK's assassination. She was mayor of Austin also. She's a hoot to be sure.

52. Aw, thanks for your kind words.
I have been here since about October 2001, didn't start posting until December of 2001 though :)

I've applied to BU, NYU, Northeastern, Art Institute of Boston, RIT, and Corcoran School of Design for Photojournalism (some for just journalism). Now I'm sending out another application to GWU. I applied to a lot of places because I had a lower SAT score than I anticipated and was afraid I wouldn't be able to get into BU, NYU, etc. Now that is all resolved, I retook them and scored 130 points higher than the first time. So, I think that I will be able to get into most of the schools I applied to. Boston University is definitely my first choice now.

53. Sounds like an excellent range of choices
and per test scores - "they say" that one can't change scores through preparation. I think that is due to the silliness of many test prep courses. When I was aiming for grad schools I decided to go for the best program in the world in my field (educational policy) - and bought a gazillion books and raised my scores by about 250 points (comparable to the 130 raise inthe SATS). Good job Maggie - I know it was tough in my case to do it - but it paid off (I got into the program I was aiming for.) For what it is worth - we have a pretty good journalism school at IU - and one of its former students is now doing incredible work against the bush regime in TAP, the Nation and other progressive periodicals. Started out by writing for the progressive/independent local papers while in school (hint, hint...) that lead to a number of contacts that paid off later.

Since I am not able to be around here that much anymore - I hope that you don't mind if I "thread jack" when I run into you - to ask for updates. Just count me as a supporter who enjoys watching you blossom as an intellectual young woman (guess it is the educator within me...) To you a big
