4. I'd ask my dog but he is already asleep. He works so hard napping
and cruising the yard during the day. It wears him out.

6. Please follow up
I need the info.

My intuition tells me he was saying, "I'm here, goddamnit. And all of you other motherfuckers aren't. Don't even think about coming into this yard and fucking with me because this is my yard. Do you understand me? If you came back here I will bite your fucking head off and piss on your remains. You have been warned!"

But I could be wrong.

12. I was worried about that
But then someone told me that dogs can't hear consonants; only vowels.

I experimented by calling a dog named "Jacque," "Clog." He came running to me just as if I had said "Jacque," instead of "Clog."

Is there anything to this aural theory?

10. Dogs whisper, for the most part...
I noticed years ago, when our border collie, Mist, was alive that she and Wolfgang were having whispered conversations...no recognizable consonants, but a wide variety of subtle vowel changes.

I've mimicked these sounds with other dogs, and always receive an enthusiastic response.

13. I'll have to watch it again...
I hadn't noticed that before.

They were probably saying, "I know...it seems stupid, but we've got to do what the director says. At least it's a job."

16. I taught mine to howl like a wolf
he's a rat terrier, but if I howl, he will. He taught my other two dogs to howl, another rat terrier and a chihauhau/pomeranian mix so now we are a pack.

17. When a dog stretches its front paws out ahead of him, and brings his head
down while its back end is still up, and looks up at you, that's universal "dog talk" for "let's play"

18. Ever see the Far Side Cartoon
It shows this guy with a strange helmet on, and it says "Professor Metzbaum and his helmet which translates the secret language of dogs" and there are about 8 dogs in the cartoon and they are all going "hey, hey, hey".
My pet theory is that all communication boils down to two basic messages. Either a) let me help, or b) hey, do something for me. Dogs are usually saying b) - play with me, feed me, take me outside, etc.

19. Most of us speak some "dog" and most dogs speak some
human language. The fact that we and they communicate as well as they do is amazing to me.

23. My son might know what it means
He is 1 and we're at my brothers right now and it seems like he talks up a storm to the dogs. Not sure if he is chastising them, trying to say dog but it comes out "DOH" or if he is communicating with them in the canine language! Sure is cute watching though!

What he said was "I don't have to have a job, and you do, so who's the smart one now? Huh?"

My dog says it to me all the time.
