Do Nigerians IM You Online To Hit On You As Part Of A Scam? |
|
It happens to me all the time when I'm online. Claiming to be models, they post pictures of models they obviously got off of the internet. The worst that's ever happened for me was that I gave one my address, and started getting huge amounts of new stuff shipped to me, which I would've been later asked to ship to them. I called the shipping companies, and had all the stuff returned from where it came. The person online called me stupid for doing that. I said, "I may be stupid, but I'll not be part of any scam." I'm sure that not all Nigerians online do this, it's just those that IM me.

4. They'll tell you how handsome you are, and ask to be your bride. |
|
But if they give you a number to call for a travel agency, it's just a scam to get your credit card number. It's hard not to be flattered though, that they could be so taken with you so quickly.

I had one send me an e-mail asking me to act as if I was related to some American executive who died in Nigeria with no will or heirs.

9. That's the playing on your greed scam, to get your account information, |
|
or to get you to send them money, to get a promised huge amount of money. I get the ones looking for the lonely heart living alone single pigeons.

5. There's a now somewhat famous |
|
email about a Nigerian guy asking for your bank account routing number and some other stuff claiming that you'll make money off some rich relative that died.
It's obviously bullshit. I have some Nigerian friends and one was joking around saying that there are plenty of those scams.

7. Do they ever succeed in these little ventures? |
|
I just can't imagine that anyone would be stupid enough to fall for it.
