Actor Jerry Orbach, who played a sardonic, seen-it-all cop on TV's "Law & Order" and scored on Broadway as a song-and-dance man, has died of prostate cancer at 69, a representative of the show said Wednesday.
When his illness was diagnosed, he had begun production on NBC's upcoming spinoff "Law & Order: Trial By Jury," after 12 seasons playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in the original series. His return to the new show had been expected early next year.

Orbach is survived by his second wife, Elaine, whom he met doing "Chicago" and married in 1979, and grown sons Chris and Tony from his first marriage.

I know I am late on this one. But I just have to say how sad this is. I used to watch Law & Order a lot because I loved Jack and Lenny plus a lot of those who have left the cast. Lenny's wisecracks made the show sometimes. When Lenny left I quit watching. Jack is great but without Lenny L&O just wasn't worth putting up with anymore. Especially with Fred Thompson and Elizabeth Rohm who I personally couldn't stand, plus I've never cared for Farina either. I was looking forward to the new spin off that Jerry was supposed to be in though.
Rest in Peace Jerry and my thoughts and sympathies go out to his family, friends, and co-workers.
