Has anyone here ever had a tsunami dream? |
|
I've had a couple in my life and they were very disturbing. As a kid we spent alot of time at the beach and went bodysurfing and loved it. I remember one particular dream that has been brought back to me because it was so similar to the tragedy. I was at Newport Beach CA, where we used to vacation, on the sand when I looked out and saw a HUGE wave coming to shore. I tried to run but you know how hard that is in a dream and got caught and lifted by the wave. I was carried to the shore. It was a scary dream and obviously not too much like the reality of the current situation. In another similar one, I ran and ran up a sand hill and just managed to beat the wave. Talk about adrenaline.
Anyway, I was wondering if I'm the only one who's had this kind of dream!

it sort of had to do with the tsunami
In the dream, I met a teacher of mine from college and she had photos of the tsunami. Her and her boyfriend barely escaped the waves before coming back to the states.
The odd thing was-that the pictures looked so real and vivid.

We actually had a small tsunami when I was a kid (Oregon, 1988 or 89 I think). It was a huge wave that hung in the background of the dream while I was building a sand castle. I knew I should move, but I couldn't somehow make myself get up and get ut of the way. It was scary, but only once I woke up. During the dream, I wasn't scared, just concerned.

10. It has been a rather, ahem, unsettling experience |
|
more than once in my life. Generally know which dreams are more than bubble gum for the sleeping mind. Usually tell a confidant when I feel a dream is a warning. Did talk a well traveled friend into staying home once due to a dream. After a bit of time and some pictures in the paper, he was grateful for listening to my woman's intuition.
Wish I could dream about winning lottery numbers instead of forces of nature.

14. I had a dream once about my daughter drowning |
|
in the neighbors pool. She would have been around nine and in my dream she spent the night there which she did often and drowned. My grief in my dream was IMMENSE!! I wanted to die. when I woke up I was so unsettled and scared. Sometime later over the next few weeks, she asked to spend the night and I said No. She was why??? I said, because I had a dreamed that you drowned and you can't go. She was VERY upset with me, but I told her the truth. We moved shortly thereafter and she's now 25, a mom with her own life but we still talk about it. When she was a teen she would things like, mom, we're going to the beach and we'll be near WATER!!! She was messing with me, but I would say, be careful then, remember my dream!

Before I moved to California, I never realized I had a fear of heights (natural heights, that is. man-made heights don't seem to bother me) It's hard to find anything frighteningly high on the Appalachian plateau in PA.
Anyway, I tried to hike half dome in Yosemite. Youch. For those of you who have never done this before, let me explain: Half dome is one of those huge bulbous granite things in Yosemite, but most of the hike isn't particularly death-defying. Steep trails through wooded areas, etc. Near the top, you have to climb up this pile of boulders onto a small plateau. I started having real trouble breathing and keepiing my balance, due to the THREE THOUSAND FOOT DROP to the valley floor that was visible somewhere off to the right. I was in no real danger of falling, this part of the hike not being very steep. When you get to the top of this boulder-y area, you are confronted with a sort of rope lader that goes up the final 900 feet or so of granite... at a 45 degree angle... with a sheer THREE THOUSAND FOOT DROP on either side. I couldn't even *look* at the ropes without getting woozy, and... where was I going with this? Oh yes. The dreams. I have these dreams now where I'm hiking along a seemingly innocuous trail, and then look down to see that below there is this HORRIBLE CHASM that I'd somehow failed to see before. All of a sudden, the trail is very steep, and I have trouble maintaining my balance. I start to slide down the hill. Usually at this point I wake up.
What does this have to do with tsunami? Absolutely nothing.

6. I've also had vertigo dreams |
|
which have nothing to do with tsunamis. I'm on the roof of a tall building and suddenly have an incredible feeling I'm going to fall of the edge so I lie down and crawl off the roof. In real life, I've never experienced vertigo even ON tall buildings. I used to work on the 48th floor of the ARCO tower and it never bothered me, even in an earthquake!

I'm really not bothered by tall buildings. I've stood on top of tall buildings in many places, and haven't ever felt any sort of fear. Natural heights, on the other hand, scare the bejeezus out of me for some reason.

17. The closest I've ever come to vertigo was the edge of the |
|
Grand canyon. Go figure! We hiked down and had a great time but at that edge I got that funky feeling.

8. Dozens of tidal wave dreams. |
|
Although not for years. Sometimes I outran them, other times I was hit but somehow survived. Because of these dreams, I have a strong fascination with (and fear of) tsunamis.

12. I've had numerous tsunami dreams |
|
It's the natural disaster that has always scared me the most.
My dreams involve really giant single walls of water. Looking at these recent videos, the reality is different from my dreams. These are smaller walls of water THAT NEVER STOP.
In my dream I withstand the torrential wall of water and then it's over. In reality the wave is just the beginning of the horror.

Combined with a feeling of dread.
And maybe it's callous but... It's almost like I can relax now.

One in particular that I remember; everyone was rushing to get to a certain road, whereby they would feel 'safe' from the oncoming wave. I just stood stock still.
Someone running by yelled at me "hurry up, you'll die!" to which I replied, "calm down, it's only a dream".
My tornado dreams are much, much more vivid.

16. I had one almost exactly like yours when I was about 9 yrs. old. |
|
I was sitting on the beach and could not move at all.
I just sat there looking at the wave towering over me and I could just barely croak out "Mommy". Man, that was scary.
