My dog got into the holiday M&M's

I don't know if she ate any, but they were spread out all over the floor. I offered her one after the fact and she refused it. Should I be worried? Or is a one time doggie chocolate binge not anything to worry about?

According to my vet, when my dog got into some left out, dark chocolate is worse for them. Milk chocolate is less harmful, though.

7. My dog ate an entire box of dark chocolate coated cookies.

I did not figure it out until the next morning. She did seem mighty perky. I called the emergency vet (Sunday, of course) and they tried to talk me into inducing vomiting with hydrogen peroxide. I eventually decided that those cookies were too far down the trail to get back up so just watched her. Never even had diarrhea. I think she would like to have another box but we now have to keep it well hidden. I would just watch and see if she has problems but hopefully it won't be more than a case of the hershey squirts.

8. M&Ms aren't too bad

My vet said that milk chocolate is pretty much harmless, as long as they don't eat a few pounds of it.

The darker the chocolate the more toxic, with dark baking chocolate the worst.

9. I figured I'd get some contradictory answers

I know some dog owners who feed their dogs chocolate all the time and they certainly don't die, but other owners claim it's deadly poison. Maybe I'll give her some Peroxide just in case.

12. Looks like she can eat about 25 ounces of milk chocolate

before reaching toxic levels. She ~maybe~ ate about 10 M&M's.. I'm not too worried. Thanks for the link.

15. It's certainly not the weirdest thing she's eaten

So far she's eaten:

Half a jar of Vaseline
A pea sized ball of hash (she really enjoyed that! :smoke: I was jealous)
Part of a mercury thermometer (surprisingly not very dangerous either)
A battery (although she stopped before getting it all the way open)
A foil wrapped taco (she ate most of the foil too)
Tinsel
Part of a candle
A pack of cigarettes
About 10 tea bags

13. Don't worry - I already researched this!

My dog ate three holiday peppermint patties and I was worried so I looked it up and basically if he/she shows sudden signs of hyperactivity or vomiting, you should get to the vet - otherwise, you're probably OK. My dog pooped out several bits of aluminum foil -otherwise, she was fine!

18. On xmas eve, while tidying up, we found Blue ON the dining room table

having already nailed two brownies and heading for her 3rd.

She was fine.

No remorse. I yelled at her and she looks at me with the "Whuh?" look.

20. My dog ate an entire large Halloween bag of peanut M&Ms

He's a golden retriever so he's a big guy but I was a little worried anyway. I called the vet immediately and asked if there was going to be a problem and he said no. He said the peanuts should help counter alot of the sugar and chocolate, and that actually dark chocolate is the culprit because its more concentrated.

So, if you're dog wasn't interested when you tried to feed him one, well not only will he probably never have a junk food problem, he probably didnt even eat one.

If my dog at one of those big Halloween bags of M&Ms and he never missed a beat, I think your pup should be just fine.
