Firefox users here's how you can make pages load faster |
|
Note: Pages will on load faster if you have a broadband connection.
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

1. I did that a couple days ago |
|
I have probably saved a day in waiting on loads!
Actually it's great. New pages load like they're cached already. I did this though (default settings): network.http.max-connections: 48 (24)
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24 (8)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 12 (4)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 6 (2)
network.http.pipelining: true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 32 (4)
network.http.proxy.pipelining: true
I'll have to try the right click thinger at the end. Thanks!

22. The settings are optimized for dial-up users |
|
Trying to do 30 threads on a 26.4K line would just make things worse, since you're already using all the available bandwidth. You have a lot of room to grow with a 1.5Mb (or faster) broadband connection, so upping those numbers produces a big improvement in performance.
It might be good to have a dialog box during installation that asks what kind of connection you have and sets those values accordingly.

I'd been reluctant to switch over because it seemed even slower than Micorsoft Ecplorer. Now it's mega times better! Bye, bye, Bill! Thanks again!

27. This also fixes problems with eBay... |
|
...returning "Document contains no data" errors if your "My eBay" page is lengthy.
I'm supposing it can get requests in for all the different page segments before they time out as they were before.
Also works with ISDN (64k/128k) lines.
Thanks big time!!
