Can You Say The Word "Specific" Without It Winding Up "Pacific"
I really hate saying that word, and I never thought of myself having a lisp until I'd have to say that word and it winds up coming out really close to pacific - as in the ocean.

Its really annoying, anyone else have this problem?

1. Not Personally
but it seems to be one of those words that trips up a lot of people. Reminds me of something else: I listen to NPR on the way to & from work every day, and I notice that a lot of announcers whistle when they pronounce the 'S' sound. Seems that they would have been made aware of that when they were in broadcasting school & worked on minimizing it.

5. The sibilant "s" and the popping "p".
We were nagged about those often in broadcasting school. The sibilant "s" can be caused by over-enunciation, and the popping "p" is usually caused by having one's mouth too close to the microphone.

I think there's a difference between USING specifications and BEING pacific.

7. No.
What else gives you problems in pronunciation?

It's possible that learning foreign languages helps.

8. I had a boss from New Orleans with this issue... and it drove me nuts!
She was a big-wig with a MAJOR pharmaceutical company. She'd use it a lot, too. When I would speak to her and I would use the word "specific" (with proper pronunciation), I used to wonder if she thought I was saying it wrong... hmmm.

Funny...
