My workload has doubled, and all I want to do is goof off.
So, our residential title officer quit and until we hire someone else (which will happen anytime between now and infinity) I get to do her old job. In additon to the job I already have. So, like most people who work for a living, I'm overextended to the point of ridiculousness. I already asked my boss, and I can't have her paycheck in addition to mine. But he did say I'm due for a raise. I told him he's just saying that because of my new workload.

Oddly enough, whenever I have way too much work to do and know I'll never be able to finish it all, I'm just totally unmotivated. Crap is piling up faster than elephant shit in the white house, and I could spend all day on DU. Or I could read Harry Potter - I got all the books for Christmas. And there's that online jigsaw puzzle I can play for a while. Maybe catch up on the news.

This only happens when I have too much work to do.

1. I do the exact same thing, rather, I am DOING the exact same thing
right now

2. here's what to do
Make a list of the priorities from each job and do those and only those.

Most jobs are about half urgent items and about half routine. Skip the routine or see if you can delegate the routine stuff to someone else. If not, just explain it away with the double workload.

If you do a good job of managing both jobs, they'll NEVER hire anyone. So be sure you make it clear on a regular basis what is NOT getting done and what repercussions are likely to come down the pike.

3. Yeah, there are a lot of tasks that won't get done.
My task list is public domain, so everyone in the company can see the avalanche of poop on my desk. They're asked not to call me to status anything - they can look at the task list and know exactly where it is on the totem pole. My boss is going to help out with some of the stuff. My job is to make sure he feels overwhelmed too. More motivation to hire someone, and he'll spend less time on foxnews.com. :D

4. That's exactly the way I am.
Unfortunately, I work in a cube farm, and there are too many prying eyes to goof off like I once did.
