Poll question: Did anyone else just say no?
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 02:42 PM by yvr girl
I've never tried drugs. Never really had an interest in doing so. I did get high once taking cold medicine and drinking Jolt Cola together, but that was inadvertent.

How rare a beast am I?

edit to add 'Other' (Sorry, I thought I had the choices covered.)

1. How regularly is regularly?
Like is once a month regularly? Once every other month, or is that occassionally?

:cough: :cough:

2. I used to smoke pot for a while, but quit when I realized
I just didn't like it. Why was I continuing to do something I didn't like just to be social? That was about twenty years ago. Haven't touched the stuff since. I stuck to legal drugs like alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. I gave up the tobacco six years ago.

19. I'm just the opposite
although I will occasionally have a spanish coffee. Drinking alcohol (to the point of intoxication) only makes me sick and tired besides what would my children think if they saw their mother stupid and falling down drunk?. Over the years, I've discovered that I can't stand being around people when they are drunk and I am sober, they repeat the same things over and over or else they get belligerant and want to fight. I prefer to smoke a little at the end of a long day to relax.

20. I can't stand being drunk.
That's a state of being that happens very rarely for me, probably less than once a year.

3. I had one toke from a pot pipe.
I was in Europe, and a guy in our group had just come back from Amsterdam with a "souvenir". ;-)

It burned my lungs something fierce, of course didn't do a thing to me, only being one toke, and worst of all, for the next 3 days when I exhaled I could still "taste" it in my lungs. Yuck.

7. I am drug free! Except for coffee. And sometimes Ibuprofen.
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 02:42 PM by tjdee
oh, and sometimes alcohol.

I've never had an interest in doing so either.

Every time I've seen anyone smoke marijuana, they end up going to sleep or getting sleepy within an hour. Woo. Fun.

I guess that's when some of the teeny boppers turn to coke and the uppers.

I think marijuana should be legal, btw. Don't like inhaling stuff, so even if it were legal I wouldn't do it.

14. Sleepy, yeah, sometimes...
It depends on what you're smoking and what you're doing.

It's amazing how different it is from the outside vs. the inside, you'd really be amazed. Trying to communicate to someone who is not stoned when you are, is really, really weird.

Listening to 70's music, though, when properly stoned - there's very little that I've experienced that's better - you gain an entire new appreciation for it and hear stuff you never heard before, and the cool part is that you can usually still hear it when you're sober, though you rarely listen as carefully.

Anyway, there's stupid drug taking and there's "artistic" drug taking. I'm all for the artistic and mostly against the stupid. Why burn brain cells if you get nothing out of it?

I'd personally rather kick alcohol than pot, but it's much harder.

that no one ever offered. So I really never had to say no, but I also think that sugar and caffeine are addictive.
Then again, I think it is unfair to leave alcohol and cigarettes off the list. Chomsky points out they kill far more than the illegals.

but I always preferred hops & barley. I was always too scared to do acid, and in hindsight, I'm glad I never tried.

13. What "Hardness" is
The phrase "hard drugs" is often used to describe "scary drugs", but it actually means "addictive drugs". For instance, Marijuana, Peyote, and LSD were all called "soft drugs" before the mid-1960s when the big drug scares (were) started.

Even amphetamines were originally called "soft drugs", because the addictive effects of long-term high doses were largely unknown by the public until the early 1970s.

I've met a number of acidheads and serious stoners who have never even tried "hard drugs" like heroin and cocaine.

Of course, there are hazards to drug abuse that have nothing to do with addictiveness, but the "hard drugs" thing is an example of the campaign of misinformation that has both vilified and "sexed up" drug use.

I had no interest. I tried smoking (a cigarette) and broke out in hives. It kind of put me off smoking anything.

Alchohol is way too physically traumatizing. Pot is just a nice, mellow, wonderful focus.

23. I Smoked a Lot of Pot in High School and College
But never do anymore. Mostly because the shit is so expensive these days. An full ounce back in my day (1976~1983) went for $30-$35. Anyway, I have absolutely no regrets, those were great times and I would do it all over again given the chance.

I never got into the habit of using anything other than alcohol. I was a heavy drinker from the time I turned 21 until just a month ago when I decided to give it up. I'm 32 now.

30. what is serious?
I experimented, sure, pot wasn't what I was looking for, but it wasn't like I was an addict or anything. No one in the 70s just said no unless they were in recovery or had a serious personality disorder.

37. True, but
I think if you do it there, and get drug-tested later in the U.S. and it comes up positive, you're still out of luck. Lucky for me, I haven't had to do that since before I went to Amsterdam, and it's been long enough now that it wouldn't matter. Not that there aren't enough ways of getting around that, anyway...

32. Never done drugs, never been (too) drunk.
It never appealed to me. I hung out with stoners (amongst others), but they knew I wouldn't touch anything.

I drink alcohol now and then, but I don't get drunk.

No one really called me a goody-goody. I was clean on just about everything, but I came off as independent, more than a prude. I hung out with just about every group at school, and fit in with all of them, but never tried to imitate any of them.

I've tried it a quite a few times, but it always affects me differently and I don't really like it because of that. I've never been a regular user and don't want to be even though in theory it's probably more harmless than alcohol. It's just not my thing and I don't have much desire to try anything else either.
