REAL Fundamentalist fun: "Fast for George W. Bush's Holiness"

If you are willing to fast at least one day a month primarily for George W. Bush's holiness (and other areas, such as bipartisan work among the Democrats and Republicans, Wisdom in his work, wisdom for his cabinet, healing for our nation, etc. ...but primarily holiness) then we encourage you to sign up and join us.

Choose the day you want to fast on such as the 1st, the 14th, ...you get the idea. Click on the "Sign Up" tab and follow the options! It's that easy. Your name will be put on a list for that day. Then two days before that date comes up, I will be sending you a reminder via e-mail to fast on that day. If for whatever reason you cannot make it, e-mail me and let me know. I will make sure someone is fasting for that day. Please excuse Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter as days to fast on... and don't choose your birth date. (unless you don't like birthday cake!) If the President's office puts out prayer requests, we will forward those on to you.

Please take this seriously. The original idea was to have this for President Bush only. But we are convinced now it will continue on no matter who becomes the next president. You will need to renew right before the next president takes office (but we'll let you know more about that later!)

If you need or want to be permanently excused, follow the instructions in the "Sign Off" tab. That's not a problem. But we do want an accurate count of those participating. Our goal is to have 1,000 people fasting for the President each day. That will greatly encourage him and keep him accountable when the Evil One seeks to sidetrack him from his commitment to the Lord.

1. Actually, Liberal Christians should be signing up...
fasting and praying for *, that he might attain a little compassion, and to be convicted by the Holy Spirit for his multitude of sins.

2. It just ocurred to me that a European doesn't know anymore what
is satire and what is fact in your country. And I'm not totally unaccustomed to the American way: I was married to an American once, ten years. But what's going on right now is... confusing. To say the least.

7. So this is not satire but fact... *sigh*
The real bad part about this is that I think prayer works - My goodness, now we need a counter-prayer-movement...

9. I actually had "not a satire" in my subject line and had to shorten it.
I thought the "Presidential Prayer Team" was bad...this takes "delusional" to a whole new level.

6. Can someone explain something to me?
How does fasting, among Fundies, work?

I know the meaning of fasting within Catholicism (sacrifice to obtain grace) and Hinduism (austerities that imbue the actor with spiritual power), and even political protest (being willing to die for a cause) -- but what is its function among American fundamentalists?

I understand that there is also organized prayer "swat teams" springing up around the country -- apparently they believe that the more people who prayer, the more likely the wish will be granted.

Boy -- living these days is a real treat for those of us who study history. I used to wonder "How did Hitler ever rise to power in Germany?" and "What was life in the Middle Ages like?" -- and now I know....

10. "Fasting" gets a wide range of interpretations.
Believe it or not, I know some people who consider it to be "skipping lunch." Hell, I work from home as a graphic designer. There are some days where I get so caught up in a project that I look up and see that it's 3 or 4 pm and I missed lunch.

That doesn't mean I "fasted"...and if I did, I certainly didn't do it for the holiness of George W. Bush.
