How Do You Make a Martini?
It's my job to make them at my best friend's New Years party. GOD ONLY KNOWS why that job was relegated to yours truly, but anyway...

I've never made one before, how do I do it? I know some of you quite experienced DUers can give me some tips! Lay it on me, please!

1. My preferred method:
Pour the Vermouth into a martini glass, swirl it, dump it, add chilled vodka, three olives.

Or capful of Vermouth with vodka in shaker, strain with three olives.

Grey Goose Vodka preferred.

6. Perfect, right down to the vodka choice.
Most people ordering a martini will expect gin, though, unless they specify vodka.

9. "vodka martini" is an oxymoron!!
Gin, baby. Gin, with the barest whisper of dry vermouth.

In lieu of an olive or pearl onion, I prefer a lemon twist, rubbed once around the rim of the glass.

Ah...perfection.

20. With an olive, it's a Martini. With an onion, it's a Gibson.
I have no idea what it is with a lemon twist. :D

A casual glance at the vermouth bottle as you pour the gin.

7. If you want to make a gin martini...
make sure you don't shake it because it bruises the gin. I am a fan of vodka martinis...take a quality vodka and a splash of vermouth and shake it over ice. I like mine with a twist rather than an olive and you got yourself quite a drink. I don't have exact measurements because I sorta eye it up when I make one. Trial and error is the best way to find out the perfect mixture

38. I have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire in the freezer.
I don't like gin at all, and when I do have a martini, I like Grey Goose (and I can only have one!). Anyway. We bought the Bombay Sapphire for my mother-in-law, who was here last week for Christmas.

She poured the gin over the olives and gave the bottle of vermouth a cold glare.

40. I like Bombay Sapphire.
I bought a small bottle myself, and then received a large bottle for Christmas.

:9

I keep my vodka in the freezer, too. I buy Tito's Handmade Vodka, made here in Austin. Awesome stuff.

17. By the way, everyone should own a bartenders' guide.
Most drinks are terribly easy to make once you know the ingredients and percentages.

Tomorrow I plan to be bombed on Kamikazes:

1/3 Vodka
1/3 Triple Sec
1/3 Lime Juice

Serve over ice.

Briefly look at the bottle of vermouth. Ready to serve.

On edit: I think I stole this from Churchill.

21. Today it seems like anything in a martini glass is a martini
I would suggest stopping off and getting a guide.
My martini is:
Vodka shaken on ice
Pour olive juice into martini glass
Add cold vodka
Skewer some olives (Bleu cheese stuffed is good) and add to drink.

23. Yes...names like "appletini" should be banned.
Cosmopolitans are fun now and then. They are served in a martini glass, but they are not martinis.

Have you noticed also that martini glasses seem to be about four times bigger than they used to be? You could pour a whole pitcher of martinis into one!

36. Just giving the originator all the information
It would be a little shocking to ask for a traditional martini and get a dirty one. Kind of like when you grab the orange juice container in the dark when you meant to get the milk

28. The perfect martini:
Fill martini glass with crushed ice. Pour a SMALL amount of dry vermouth into glass, and swirl until glass is well chilled. Discard ice and vermouth and pour one jigger of chilled gin into glass. Garnish and serve.

42. vodka martini
pour a little dry vermouth in the glass, swirl it around to coat the inside of the glass, pitch the rest. Shake the vodka with ice and pour in coated glass, add an olive or two.

I like Gray Goose the best, but it's a bit pricey on my salary. The next best thing I have found is VOX vodka from the Netherlands. Can't be beat for the price.
