Cat Thread*******Kitty in the Tub
Like most cats, Bug is fascinated with the bathroom and anything that happens in that room. He typically performs a surefooted balancing act on the rim of the Tub whenever someone is relaxing in the warm bubbles. He is astounded and bewildered that a mammel would voluntarily submerge themselves in WATER, and he insists on cloes up observation of the entire process.

I've wanted to document his bathtub balancing performance, and used this opportunity to experiment with a new digital camera and flash (still experimenting). He has NEVER fallen in....until now.

"If I can only get my hind foot on that nozzle thingy...."

Is anything more pathetic than a wet cat?

He was only mildly distressed, and quickly jumped out and ran to his warm place to dry out and fix his fur.

I paniced worse than than he did, fearing that he would shread me in a mad scramble to get out of the WET WATER. My instincts for self preservation trumped the Photographers Credo to Keep Shooting No Matter What, so I missed some good shots.

1. Quinn did that once, but he did because he tried to jump on the edge
of the tub and had too much momentum and slid right in :)

Same thing though, he didn't fuss to much just jumped out post-haste and ran away and hid in a warm spot til he could dry off.

3. He's beautiful
I wish my "Patsy Cline" was a little more adventurous inside the house. She just brings me her innocent victims from outside the house.

That's one handsome cat you have there, too! My Oberon did the same thing when he was a bit younger; he ran into the bathrom as I was getting out of the tub, and took a flying leap into it without looking-then he tore around the house, soaking wet, as if he'd been attacked!

Funny thing; I just posted these in another thread a few minutes ago. What IS the feline fascination with bathtubs, even when they're empty?

Puck stalks me when I brush my teeth

Then pretends she wasn't doing a thing..

Are your cats related?

Great pictures!
What camera are you using?

8. Thanks! I'm using a
Nikon Coolpix 4300. It's only 4 megapixels, but it does an OK job.

How about yours? What did you shoot your photos with?

No, Oberon and Puck aren't related. Oberon is a Maine Coon (yours looks like one too-is he?), and Puck is a Turkish Angora. Both are just a year and a half old or so. Puck is a normal sized kitty; 7 or 8 lean pounds, while Oberon is a freaking yeti of a cat!

You can see more of them on Catster:

Oberon:

Puck:

Miro:

Peewee:

BTW- the last photo ob puck's page was taken with my dad's 6.5 megapixel Canon digital (don't know the number). It uses the same lenses as a 35mm Canon. I don't know if you can see the difference on the site, but it takes AMAZING photos!

24. I'm using an Olympus C-750.
For Christmas, I got an aftermarket Flash attachment that didn't have instructions for my camera, so I spent the day figuring it out. The pictures I posted earlier were from the experimental stage. It takes much crisper pictures now.

My cat is from the Humane Shelter, so he's a mix. Most people that know cats tell me that he has alot of "Coon Cat" in him. I got him as a kitten about a year ago. He was the messiest (and loudest) one of the litter. We called him Cowlick for a while because his fur was sooo uneven and went in every direction. It still does in spite of daily brushing.

25. How big is he?
Maine Coons take four to five years to reach their full size. Sadly, a lot of them do end up in animals shelters; they're the third most popular purebreed in the country, and kittens that don't live up to the breed standard are often dumped on shelters by irresponsible breeders. Since Bug doesn't seem to have "lynx tips" or an exceptionally heavy muzzle, he may not be pure Maine Coon, but then again, he may be an "imperfect" model (my Oberon is a "pet quality" MC because he has brown spots on his otherwise silver coat-but he's perfect to me)!

Looking forward to more photos of Bug now that you've got the flash figured out! :hi:

Is he a handsome sexycat?

Or is he a pitiful goobercat?

Either way, he's a sweet boy. :-)

I think Bug has GOT to have some Maine Coon in him; his tub adventure is just the sort of thing an MC would do!

19. Cat attraction to tubs: My theory....
They really love being contained. A tub is highly defined territory...high walls, usually a wall at their backs. Then there's temperature...My cats climb into the tub after I take a bath, just as soon as the tub is dry again. I think it's because the tub surface is warm from the bath water. All the kitties in this thread are gorgeous. I've got seven rescued ferals in my house at the moment. Three are thoroughly domesticated. Four, still kittens, are just at the brink of tameness. One of these days I'll post pictures. I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in my love for cats!

5. I love the photos and the story
I have a fluffy brown tabby (named Sebastian) who does the same thing. Whenever I'm taking a bath, he walks around the tub surround but he is so sure footed that he has never fallen in. I'm glad too -- he would probably scratch me up pretty badly if he fell in.

My red tabby does not go near the tub.

7. reminds me of
my cat Moses that my ex got in the divorce. Looks just like him. He used to walk on top of the railing at the top of our steps and look down at you as you were walking up. He mysteriously died shortly after we split up.

18. What a cute kitty
I don't blame you for watching out for yourself, though. You could have been seriously scratched up had you not.

My Beans fell into the toilet when she was a wee one. (no pun intended) I was in the living room, when I heard a "splink", a "rowr" and saw her go flying through the house. i had to chase her down so I could throw her in the sink & wash her. The toilet wasn't dirty, but I couldn't in my right mind let her try to clean herself that way.

She now likes to perch between the shower curtain liner & curtain while I'm showering. Her brother Frankie won't go near the tub except for the occasional drink. Whenever humans come near, he bolts.
