Since we have some male DUers who seem to have no problem with a woman losing her job, after 20 years, because she didn't want to wear makeup (new rule)...how about we women decide a new rule for the men. What new requirement is appropriate for the guys to keep their jobs? If we have to wear mascara and lipstick to be culturally appropriate (to be a bartender?), then what should be mandatory for the men? Leiderhosen? Cowboy hat? Handlebar mustache? Speedo?

3. Whoa! I must've missed that thread. |
|
So, how many sexist pigs masquerading as DUers thought it was OK for that woman to lose her job for not wearing make-up? Perhaps you could link to the thread in question? Thanks!

Court Backs Firing of Waitress...sorry, my link didn't work. There are over 300 replies. You'll have to read quite a few to pickup the sexist ones. But there are several. Quite disheartening.

4. Simple. They should have to wear makeup too. |
|
Either ALL employees are required to wear makeup or NO employees are required to wear makeup.

Or, if unwilling to do that, make them wear pantyhose every day. Even with slacks, which is what I was told I had to do at a bank where I worked. No knee-highs allowed! Like who in hell is going to check?

Totally bizarre. We all shake our heads at the Islamic restrictions on women, including their confining clothing. Yet, we all know these irrational affronts to our own self-dignity. Why in the world would you be expected to wear pantyhose with pants? No knee-highs? Who came up with that...and why? I'd love to hear the explanation. I was once reprimanded for not wearing panties when I wore pantyhose. I was told that pantyhose do not take the place of panties. Both are required. Of course, I asked...and just how do you know I'm not wearing panties? Because I didn't have a visible panty line when I wore a knit dress. Thanks for noticing...I think I'll just go back to work now. And maybe you should too, sir. Yikes.

No clip-on ties, and no loafers. And a Spencer Tracy hat. At all times.

24. Why is that? On the dry cleaning, I mean. |
|
WHY is my blouse a dollar more expensive to clean than my husband's dress shirt? My blouse is smaller. It has less fabric. It's more or less the same shape.
WHY does it cost more to clean?

25. It's the "myth of the lady" raising it's ugly head again. |
|
Just like women can be paid less because it's assumed their husbands will be bringing home the real bacon, blouses cost more because it's assumed they're our fancy clothes (for special occasions only).
That's my theory, any way.

Think about it: It's subtle enough where people might not really notice it, but *they'd* know it's there and would freak out the entire time.
