8. Never heard that one.
I know she and Jon Voight had a strained father-daughter relationship for a long time.

My pics: Kieffer Sutherland, Gwyneth Paltrow among others

15. More like Michael Reagan.
Talk about trading on the family name. At least Ron's got skills. It takes nothing to parrot the rwing line of the day.

Although 'making it' doesn't really apply in her case.

7. I bet they know it also.
Then they spend the rest of their lives trying to prove every one is wrong and they got their on their own. Some are pretty good but it must be a slap in your face at times.

10. it's better to just admit their parents did help in opening doors for them
some of them are really talented and deserve the praise they get in their work. but without connections they might never have been able to show what they had to a larger audience.

of course there is another class where they have no talent and any work they continue getting is because of connections. like paris hilton.

12. Yes, I think Sigourney Weaver's dad was a big time TV producer
Hey, what about Candice Bergen's dad?

They all seem to do well. Maybe it is genetic.

14. Liv Tyler, perhaps
Uh -- she had a famous Dad? I doubt it mattered much, apart from some subtle genetic level.

Sean Astin? -- terrifying talented as his dear Mummie. He's so good that I know it is so hard to live as such that I send him my best good wishes,

Geraldine Chaplin is -- well, suffice to say, carrying on the genius of her Dad.

16. Tori Spelling
Yeah, I know, her dad wasn't an actor, he was just the most powerful TV producer in Hollywood.

Does anyone think that she would have landed her part on 90210 if her last name wasn't Spelling?

17. Acting has long been a family tradition. Nothing wrong with it.
At least they try to work and learn their craft. Unlike Paris Hilton, who is just a parasite on society.

Amanda Plummer is a talented actress, very serious about her work, as is Laura Dern. I got not problem with any of them.

Geez, even Torrie Spelling- somebody had to do those awful roles her dad came up with.

19. They seem to work just as hard as anyone else.
There are probably just as many failed "sons and daughters of" as there are failed unknowns. It takes hard work to make it in film and theatre. If you don't earn your chops, you don't make it, whether you're somebody's kid or not.

20. But the question remains
Would they have ever made it in the business had a family member not been there to hold the door open for them?

Guess we'll never know.

25. And add to that the question: How did Jennifer Lopez become Jennifer Lopez
I think that working actors, whether or not they were born to actors or industry insiders make it or don't make it for most of the same reasons unknowns do.

Luck

Showing up on time for a call (huge one)

Being a "type" that is popular in the current culture

A willingness to exploit connections to get what you want (applies to anyone, not just kids of actors.)

Learning your frigging lines

Once you get the first break, it really makes no difference. The rest is showing up and knowing your words.
