Electronic Voice Phenomena: Fact or Fiction?
Recently, I saw the trailer for the movie "White Noise", and it pretty much freaked me out. The premise of the movie is EVP, so if you can tell me more about it and what you think about it, that might make me feel better. Thanks!

Here's some info:

And the trailer that freaked me out:

some of that stuff online and once read a book called breakthrough about tuning your radio in between stations and listening to the static until you hear voices... then when you get used to them, you can converse with them. It all seems a bit silly but hey why not.

Also like that trailer for new Deniro film with Dakota Fanning and her imaginary friend, Charlie. Scary, too.

3. I can't listen to static now without getting nervous
Do you think the "voices" they used in that movie are all real?

4. I don't. More effective to make up new spooky ones...
Ever listen to the noise of an old tube radio? Scary. Weird foul smells that come and go, scare me. In an elevator, I once watched my keys bounce unnaturally across the carpet and down the shaft. It freaked me out. Later was told my apt. was haunted. Heard weird noises all the time.

5. my mom died at home in 1995...PLEASE READ THIS POST
since then my dad, brother, sister and Ihave all experienced some really weird shit.

for instance:

When my mom and dad were dating back in the late 60's, they had an arguement...my dad felt really bad about it, and wrote her a letter on stationery from the place he was working and sent it to her. That was the last time he ever saw it. A few days after my mom died,he found the letter, now more than 25 years old, laying on his dresser like it was placed there intentionally.

One night really late several months later my dad awoke to a banging noise coming from my mom's closet. He turned the light on, and it stopped. Turned the light back off, it started again. He woke my brother up and he came in and heard it too. They opened the closet and took everything off the floor thinking the cat may be in there, but there was nothing in there but my mom's old clothes. Turned the light off, it happened again. The next day, my dad took the clothes to Salvation Army...the sound was never heard again.

We've all seen orbs, and semi-solid figures moving across the hallway.

On one occasion I was alone and home in my room which was down in the basement. I heard footsteps upstairs in the hallway, moving toward my mom&dad's room. I went upstairs and I could SMELL my mom...you know how people have a smell? I knew it was her.

I've been thinking of trying to record some EVP's using a IC recorder, and have been doing some research on aaevp.com, and other sites. I think I may have a really good shot at capturing something.

All these things I've told you are true, and have been witnessed by more than one person. I may be crazy, but all of us sure aren't.

Your thoughts?

11. I believe stuff happens. My friend lived in a house and his kid had a
horrible fall in the kitchen -- in this one spot. Every smoke alarm put in the same spot always malfunctioned, either batteries ran out or they went off for no reason at all. Also, their dog who was a pig for food never would enter kitchen and when he did, acted weird and would pee on the spot. We learned from the neighbors that the former owners used to argue for years, all the time, in the kitchen -- sometimes violently. This hippie guy once came over who knew nothing about the spot and when he reached the kitchen, he blurted out "whoa -- you better burn some sage in this room". Freaked my friend out. They sold the house.

8. do you plan to see this movie?
I sure do. If you go to the website, you can listen to some really compelling examples of EVP...and there's even a link to a website by a woman who records the EVP's using her coffeemaker as background noise.

9. I'm not sure
It looks interesting but I usually end up disappointed by big releases like that, so who knows?

12. Ever see "Seance on a Wet Afternoon"? Starring Richard Attenborough
and I think Sandy Dennis. Really great story. Bad audio. Low budget. Great acting. About a medium who helps cops find missing children. Won't give it away but its a creepy film.

13. Are you talking about the, supposedly, recorded ghosts?
I've heard folks promoting that on Art Bell's show, and I think it is totally fake. It sounds exactly like a bad recording with a flanger effect on it. Also, there is ZERO scientific evidence or method to back up the claim of the "recorders" of the sounds.
