Quick! I need DU movie rental recommendations! |
|
Mrs. IconCat and I are retreating from the world this evening. Pizza and flicks! The only problem is that I have no idea what to pick up. This is especially bad because I am one of those annoying people who cannot pick good movies at random. So, once again, I am in need of my fellow DUers' help!
Rack your brain for a second, and then reply: What should I rent?
BTW, the only restriction: No sci-fi/horror tonight. Too much of that in our reality-based reality.
Okay, now, hurry! I want to leave in 15 minutes!

6. What are you in the mood for? Escapist comedy? |
|
High drama?
Good escapist comedies would include some oldies but goodies like Caddyshack and Animal House.
Dramas I like include Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil and A Time To Kill.
What about action/adventure movies? Romancing the Stone? Indiana Jones? The Mummy?

All my kids wanted the DVD this year so I have seen it so many times and all the deleted scenes, etc. Kinda makes me wonder why this character is who they identify with! Or maybe just laugh at.
Did you ever watch Six Feet Under? That is an absolutely fabulous series.

We are such party animals. Have company coming in the morning.
I don't get HBO either. I just rent the DVD. I didn't know anything about it and decided to rent it last year. There were three hour long episodes on the first DVD. We decided we would watch one but we did not get up until we had watched all three and then hightailed it to the video store to get the next installment. We watched the entire season that week then waited anxiously for another friggin' year until they released the next season, which we watched in a week. Now I am waiting for the next season to be released.
I saw that you bought a fixer upper. Good luck! I am too old for that now because I have fixed up everything we have ever owned except this one.

Do you like foreign films, indies, or formuliac films with the happy ending?
Here are a few films I really liked: Recent favs: Lost in Translation (Warning: people either love this movie, or hate it) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Kill Bill (both--so over the top it really isn't 'horror') Elf Anchorman (stupid, but fun) Cold Mountain Spiderman II (I didn't want to see it, but really enjoyed it)
Old favs: Ed Wood Fargo The Big Lebowski Run, Lola, Run Red The Best Man (Italian) Frailty (very twisted) This is Spinal Tap Donnie Darko Mulholland Drive (very dark)
Classic favs: The Postman Always Rings Twice Casablanca Rear Window Pillow Talk That Touch of Mink (for the one-liners alone) The Quiet Man This Property is Condemned The Misfits Some Like It Hot (saw it the other day-fun!)

"condition" after I posted. You know if you strip away all the flesh eating, zombie head smacking, pipe impalled zombies, exploding zombies, arm ripping, and gut munching it really is just a love story.

I don't use one of my famous disclaimers and I get busted. I'll add it now:
Sorry to all the, recently deceased mobiley challenged, flesh challenged recently deceased, the almost recently deceased, those that want to be recently deceased, vegetarian recently deceased, and all the fans of George Romero.
Hope that covers it.
