What if question about a certain hostage rescue raid
What if a certain hostage rescue raid or Operation Eagle's Claw actually SUCCEEDED instead of FAILED????????????????

I wonder what would everyone have done then and I wonder what would have happened now.

1. You know that is a good one
and one I have never seen any historians or politcal analysts tackle. That will take some thought.

2. I bet Democrats probably could have celebrated another term of
President Carter and the long national nightmare of Reagan and President Bushit the First would have been nonexistent.

3. Yes you have a good case there
though the economy may have still hampered Carter.

4. Even if it had succeeded, which was practically impossible
given the plan, the Reagan team would have found a way to steal the election and/or discredit Carter.

Had it succeeded, I suppose there would have been some kind of OPEC action which would have made the 74 shortage look like a joke. I imagine that was the back-up plan if the missles for hostages for money for contras for drugs for money to pay for training Osama Bin Laden and chemical weapons for Iraq deal fell through.

Try saying that five times fast.

9. Which I am sure would be good for jurisdictions that depended on oil
revenue and not so good for Carter.

8. I think Carter would have had a 2nd term
So much of Reagan's campaign was about how unable Carter was for dealing with the world of 1980, and so much of that was focused on the hostages, I think that would have left the Rethuglicans without a message.
