5. It's not just that it has such a great heroine, but the artwork is |
|
fantastic! The huns are so evil (Shan-yu still creeps me the hell out!) There is much of the humor Disney flicks are famous for, but the characters and story seem to be much more serious than most.

2. I watched the movie, I have the video, and I have the soundtrack. |
|
So, yeah, I love it. :) A bit of trivia: The singing voice of Mulan is that of the actress who first played Miss Saigon in London.

7. My friends Barry and Tony directed that film |
|
I only saw it once in the theaters, but several times as a rough cut. Mulan used to be a lot wimpier; Tony and Barry are both VERY conserative. Fortunately, Tony's wife and I are not, and we harassed him into putting a little more "Xena" into the character.
You expect most artists in a film studio to be liberal, but unfortunately, there was a fair amount of Freepers at the Florida studio. :-(

Xena traits. So thank you!

12. They kept having her "accidentally" winning |
|
fights, which I thought was incredibly sexist (though I loved Tony like a brother, he IS a bit of a sexist pig at times!). I don't remember the final cut that well, but in her battle scenes in the rough cuts, she kept tripping or knocking things over during her big confrontation with the villain towards the end of the film, and it was a combination of her clumsiness and the dragon's (Mushu's) intervention that ultimately lead to his demise. I seem to remember that she actually did some ass kicking in the final version, though.
The character in the original story that the film was based on was very strong and capable; a National Heroine. It wasn't all about a daughter's love for her daddy, it was about a woman's love for her country and her people, too.

14. No way! I would never have believed freepers would even want |
|
to work at Disney. Unless they do it to sabotage all the brainwashing that the limp-wristed artistic types try to do with cartoon characters.(There are only so many ways to reach their young minds to teach them to be homosexual tree-huggers)

15. The ones that we had there were hardcore |
|
one even quit because he HATED the environmentalism in "Pocahontas". Another quit because he felt that "Lilo and Stitch" promoted Satanism (Lilo uses a voodoo doll).
Tony left and started his own Christian animation studio, which didn't do very well. I think he's heading up a Mexican studio now.

16. Wow. Pocahontas was so powerful because of |
|
the environmentalism. Nature is not the anti-christ. We will never survive as a species until we stop trying to manipulate and control it. I didn't need Pocahontas to teach me that but I hope it gets even one child to realize that the world is full of living things, not just humans.

I have bad memories associated with it (more associated with the lady I took to see it on our first date at her request).

|
would probably put me in a pissy mood for the next week. :)
