Hey folks I need a little help here.
I need something to lift my spirits. I am so incredibly depressed today.
I realize that part of my problem is I had the flu for the last week & still do not feel very well. But I am also so tired & sick of everything that is going on & not going on in the world. I feel like most of the people in this country have lost their humanity. I see selfish, greedy, uncaring, downright evil behavior in so many from our "leaders" to coworkers down the hall.
I have decided if not one of our senators stand up for us today I will be changing my party tomorrow.
I feel helpless & hopeless this morning. Tell me I'm wrong, Please!

3. In spite of how depressing it seems
it helps if you have your health, your family and your job. I live for those things now.

Also make sure to do something good for someone today, it just proves that you aren't selfish, greedy, uncaring or downright evil - therefore, not everyone is.

5. Remember, the party is us...
...and the party is city council members and aldermen and small local people acting according to our values every day. Our Senators may have the higher profile, but they're just one small part of the party. They surely do disappoint, I'll grant you that.

Sorry you feel down. We're all here for you.

Much Love,

Rene

8. Thanks all!
I really helps keep me sane knowing that DUers are here fighting along with me.
I am usually pretty positive, but being ill seems to have weakened my spirit along with my body.

6. You're right about
"most of the people in this country have lost their humanity. I see selfish, greedy, uncaring, downright evil behavior in so many from our "leaders" to coworkers down the hall."

Over the past few years I have noticed that too. I don't know what to do to change it. It seems like it is becoming more and more like "every man/woman for him/herself."

On the bright side N.O.W. says Senator Boxer will be standing up today. :-)

7. You need to go into self-preservation mode.
I have been that way since the "election". I cannot deal with the enormity of what we're facing, so I am essentially ignoring it as much as I feasibly can. I simply cannot let myself become overwhelmed with depression and despair. There are others that are counting on me to function and provide. This sounds harsh, but I do not have the power to fix the situation, and I cannot let it break me.

I will do whatever I need to do to get through the next few years. I'll write letters, I'll donate money, etc. but I WILL NOT let this beat me.

If that involves ignoring what's going on, so be it. The pendulum will eventually swing back, and I intend to be here, strong and sane, when it does.

9. Focus on the good
There is much caring and compassion out there. Look at the outpouring of donations for the tsunami victims. Look at what happens when you post a thread like this on DU.

And remember this quote from Gandhi-

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, always."

10. Thanks! I am currently reading Desmond Tutu's book
"No Future Without Forgiveness" and it is very uplifting.
The compassion & forgiveness in that man is amazing.
