seriously freaked! my house was just rocked by something!
i was just just about to go up the second floor when the house just shook. i checked the basement hoping our heating tank didn't go, though i'm sure i'd be dead if it did. what the hell happened? I think my neighbors felt it too 'cause i saw them turn their lights on briefly before turning them back off. Did anyone else in eastern PA feel anything? any reports of an explosion or earthquake anywhere??

4. hm, maybe
i did think that maybe my tree finally snapped, but then it's not in any danger of hitting the house and it's not big enough to shake a house even if it fell right next to it.

14. definitely thinking that's what it is
you should hear all the stuff blowing around up on the roof right now. pretty amazing but also half-expecting the roof to cave-in at anytime.

15. well, better to have lost the load. Unless there happen to be
vehicles where it fell. Hard on the windshield - I know from personal experience.

5. you have a neighbour you can call? check your radio? call the police?
It's hopefully nothing as serious as you think, but try to get some info if you can.

20. Subsidence=old abandoned coal mine tunnels collapse.
NOT quarries (which are open to the surface). There are some whole neighborhoods in PA which have had to be abandoned as the homes start sinking. Check with Army Corps of Engineers-there are maps you can look at to see if there are any underground tunnels below your area.

10. Any chance it was thunder?
We had a snow storm here a while back and we had some claps of thunder and some lightning with it. Anyway, our house got rocked when lightning hit not that far away. There's a tree about half a block away that was the target. At first it was freaky because it was so unexpected. Plus the thunder sounded different, not like it usually does, I think the snow somehow distorted the sound by asborbing some of it when it hit.

11. that could be a possibility
didn't see any flash though. usually when lightening strikes so close, the sky lights up to where it looks like daytime.

18. Just had a strange thought
(chalk it up to lack of sleep) Maybe it was the sound of the earth settling into its new orbit or the sound the earth makes as the vibration slows down.

28. LOL
they just shared one, the dogs that is. They went outside and did a quick patrol around their yard. They are ever vigilant against unauthorized intruders, including but not limited to squirrels, cats and opossums. I rewarded them with a snausage when they came back in.

My husband won't take his though. He says he didn't do yard patrol. He gave his to the dogs.
