1. This is not an uncommon belief amongst FReeper-types.
There was a book named None Dare Call It Conspiracy written in the sixties by someone from the John Birch Society that basically said that the fascists belong on the left side of the spectrum, and all sorts of right-wingers have been topsy-turvy ever since!

4. Of course, this wouldn't explain...

...why anarchists are left-wing, or why communists in the Marxist sense are somewhat like anarchists in the long run.

When, in the course of development, class distinctions have
disappeared, and all production has been concentrated in the
hands of a vast association of the whole nation, the public power
will lose its political character. Political power, properly so
called, is merely the organised power of one class for oppressing
another. If the proletariat during its contest with the
bourgeoisie is compelled, by the force of circumstances, to
organise itself as a class, if, by means of a revolution, it
makes itself the ruling class, and, as such, sweeps away by force
the old conditions of production, then it will, along with these
conditions, have swept away the conditions for the existence of
class antagonisms and of classes generally, and will thereby have
abolished its own supremacy as a class.

This is from the end of part II of The Communist Manifesto, titled "Proletarians and Communists". (That's right FReepers, I've read The Communist Manifesto! Your wacko conspiracy theories about liberals are right moooohahahaha!)

3. Even high-school sociology texts put fascism to the right...
Marxism is to the left of the spectrum.

It's not too hard to flip-flop conventional wisdom without proof.

Brought to you bythe same people that say tears transmit AIDS.

5. Here's a wonderful refutation of that idea/myth:

Fascism is the OPPOSITE of liberalism. Neoconservatism is pretty damn close to fascism, however.

Freepers, check it out.
