Cats are incapable of facial expression. >
I'm not saying they can't move certain parts of their faces in concert with certain other parts: they can.

But these movements do NOT amount to expression. Thank you.

38. First, you need a photo. Then you need a place online to store
it.

  • Your own web server, like I use
  • A free online host (this is a random site, I have no experience with using any of the services listed) http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-image-hosting.php
  • Try to link directly to a photo on another site, if that is what you want to use. Right click on the image, open the properties dialog, copy the URL of the image into your post. This is stealing bandwidth from others, so it is not something I would do, though many here use this.

then just put the URL of the photo into your post. No special instructions or HTML, just the URL is enough, as long as the filename ends with generally accepted image formats: GIF, PNG, JPG etc.

and yes, he is a Maine Coon (you know your cat breeds)! He is "pet quality" because of those rust spot's on his tummy (should be all silver and white), but he's perfect to me!

if anyone is interested in getting one of their own, they can visit his breeder's site: www.heartshaven.net Petfinder also has the occasional MC; www.petfinder.com

39. why do you get cats from a breeder?
my parents have two cats that they found in the WILD in michigan, and they're the nicest cats ever...it's much better, if at all possible, to get a cat from a shelter of some sort...or if they're out on the street...

not to offend anyone, but i have problems with going to "puppy farms" or pet stores to get an animal, when there's plenty on the streets that need taking care of...plus, you can get them neutered and fight the war that needs fighting: against animal overbreeding...

41. All of my cats are rescues except two
those I got after a summer of spending $7,000 on vet bills for two of my rescues, both of whom died from genetic illnesses. My remaining cat (another rescue) needed a friend, and I decided to either adopt a older show cat or get a kitten from a reputable breeder so that I could see the animals pedigree and the health history of their parents. I was DEVASTATED by the loss of my other cats, and couldn't face it again anytime soon.

The second site I listed is a rescue site; www.petfinder.com

54. That's OK; generally I feel the same way
Oberon (the Maine Coon) was an impulse buy. I went to a cat show to see a Turkish Angora that a rescue group was offering. I had to wait for the rescue coordinator to see the cat, and little kitten Oberon kept reaching out of his cage for me whenever I walked by. The rescue cat was HUGE and very playful, I knew he would just be too much for my elderly cat Miro, who needed a friend after losing his buddy Peewee to cardiomyopathy. Kitten Oberon snagged my arm through the cage as I was walking away. I felt like it was a sign, so I bought him. He and Miro are the best of buddies; Oberon is nearly as laid back as Miro is. They snuggle and groom each other every day.

To make up for his pedigreed status, Oberon has raised several hundred dollars at benefit cat shows for the SPCA. He and my Turkish Angora Puck raised over $300 in the photo contest alone! Cats "win" by earning the most votes through donations. Oberon came in second place last year, so he raised quite a bit for homeless pets. :-)

We have three coons, they're mixed, I'm sure, but you can definately tell they're coons by their temperment and coat. It's a damn good thing they're sweeties---yours could do some serious damage if they chose to. How big is that boy in the second picture?

51. I would guess about
25-28 pounds of lean kitty (I haven't actually met the grandparents). They're usually about 46 inches from nose to tail tip (the males, anyway).

Yeah, Coon cats are big floppy babies. Oberon is the only cat of mine that I would totally trust with my friend's toddlers. He's completely non-aggressive.

53. my oldest coon is 15
and when we brought our kids home from the hospital he would sit under the bassinet and guard them when they were babies. When they would cry, he'd and come to us and then go back and forth between us and the baby, as if he was saying "heh, it's making noise...aren't you 'spose to fix it?" His name is Dammit. He is the best cat I've ever had. Ya know how there's always one that is special in a lifetime? (and if you're really lucky, maybe two?) Dammy is that one for my family. My birthday is Tuesday, maybe I can show you a picture when I get a digital camera. (I've been using the stapler for a month) Yours are simply gorgeous!

56. Awwww
Dammit sounds like a great cat, and I'd LOVE to see his photo. My one special cat passed away in 2003 at the age of 15. You can see him and links to the rest of his family here;
Peewee:
http://www.catster.com/?100334

Some unsolicited advice; if I had known more about feline nutrition when I had my beloved Peewee, I'm sure I would still have him today. What goes into most commercial pet foods-including Iams, Science diet, Eukanuba and Nutro- is so bad it's illegal to feed it to people (you don't want to know the specifics). I've switched all my cats to holistic and organic foods, and I can't believe the changes I've seen in my 15 year old cat, Miro, because of it. Go to www.pookiesbowwowbakery.com or www.waggintails.com for lists of holistic brands (if you feed dry foods, the Artemis and Organix win the kitty taste tests, Wellness, Innova and Solid Gold win for wet foods).

:hi:

They're doing that now, for 50,000 a pop. Send me fur samples, or I'm catnapping him. :)

Seriously, since you've posted pics of him, I've reconsidered a Maine Coon. I'll look into some of the rescues. My grandfather had one, too. They're wonderful.

63. Lol!
He kind of has one; is brother Benny is a show kitty, and they're faces are hard to tell apart;

Google "Main Coon rescue" or "Maine Coon cattery" plus your state name if you're interested in getting one. Many catteries have older cats for adoption (some no older than a few years). a reputable cattery will take back at cat anytime; even if it's five years old and a family needs to give it up for whatever reason, so some have great cats that lost their owners to allergic children, cancer, whatever. I'm thinking about adopting a three year old Turkish Angora from a cattery sometime soon. Not sure how the others would take to it, but he seems like such a sweet kitty that I should at least try.

.. but my wife would disagree VEHEMENTLY and I disagree too.

My wife goes much further in that she insists that she knows what opur cat's (Kizmet) meow means. She has a different meow for:

"kibble me"

"my litter box is nasty"

"I need some love".

My wife is quite serious about this so I suggest you not make fun of her :)

i know my cat's different meows/moods as well. she responds to different things i say to, i sound crazy now too but my cat understands 'no', 'kitty' which she thinks is her name/her being called, 'come on' and if i imitate her meows and change pitches and just say crazy shit to her she'll talk back till the end. she always has the last word.
