Poll question: Best Vodka for a White Russian? |
|
Not for straight shots, mind you, but mixin' vodkas...

2. Actually, for mixed drinks, the cheapola stuff is almost always better |
|
The very reason mixed drinks came around was to hide the taste of shitty alcohol that was used when people couldn't afford the good stuff.
The primo stuff for distilled spirits is almost always meant to be taken straight or on the rocks.
I lived in Moscow for a time, and Scotland, and if anything was added to their national drinks, people were actually offended.
Hell, in Scotland, they'll practically shoot you if you put anything other than a little water in your whiskey. Ice? Don't risk your life.

3. Some inexpensive stuff...Smirnoff's, for example. |
|
I don't think you need to use a higher priced vodka for a mixed drink. Something like Smirnoff's would be fine.

6. I wouldn't put a premium liquor in *most* mixed drinks. |
|
I wouldn't use crap, either. :)
A nice middle of the road liquor will do just fine.
Grey Goose and Belvidere are wasted in a mixed drink...unless of course you're talking a Martini. That's another matter entirely.

7. With mixed drinks, you might as well go for the cheap stuff |
|
All that Kahluha and cream will dilute any fine taste from expensive liquors.

10. NEVER use cheap vodka |
|
There's a reason it's cheap...if I'm going for 'cheap' I buy Smirnoff or Absolute, otherwise it's Stoli all the way, or Stoli Gold (black label) if I'm feeling rich :)

15. In my white Russians, I usually use an English vodka called |
|
Three Olives. It not top shelf, but it isn't rock gut either - perfect for a blended drink. Trust me, white russians are my specialty :)
