1. wow. I'm not exactly there, but judging by what I see on CBC, |

No. Right now, BC is having a boom, like Seattle did a few years back. Housing won't keep up with the onslaught of new population, and prices will skyrocket. Vancouver is already kinda expensive.
Of course that's in Canadian dollars. :D

It might be early enough in the boom for you to get something reasonable.
The ads I'm seeing on CBC are talking about an unprecidented growth in the area. Also, they are gearing up for the winter olympics in 9 5 years, so there is all that palaver to deal with. But Hey! If you have a nice condo, you may be able to rent it out that winter for a sweet sum!
On Edit: Strike 9; change to 5

4. The Olympics are in 5 years... |

I think the condo market has topped out, and I've been playing it for about 7 years. It's been over-built, and there's only any real growth in the 'luxury condo' market. "starter" condos, i.e the kind you'd want as a pied a terre are being built faster than the demand for them at the moment, and prices are not climbing that much.
Yaletown and the West End are pretty much at their maximum development right now, and the ponly physical growth is in the East side of downtown, and the East End of the city, which is a little skanky.
