3 strange things I saw last night
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 12:27 PM by JVS
1) A billboard saying "Our plumbers will smell nice and be on time or we'll pay you" I had no idea that malodorous plumbers were such a problem.

2) Speedway Church of the Nazerene! I realize that speedway shopping plaza, speedway donuts, the speedway lounge, and so on all sounded great; however, the name seems a bit odd for a church.

3) Overpass out in the sticks labled (official signage, not grafitti) "Jeff Gordon Boulevard"

3. That is pretty strange...
especially the church one. I saw something pretty strange myself a few weeks ago. My mother and I were driving through North Carolina and we stopped to get gas, we pulled into this gas station which was right next to a small run down trailer park. In between the trailer park and the gas station which was on a highway was a little fenced in grave yard with no more than 10 graves. That whole place was giving me the creeps. The funny thing about it was the next place we stopped at had a similar grave yard right next to it. What is it about rural North Carolina and grave yards next to gas stations?

5. The church is named due to its proximity to the Indy 500 speedway
Everything along 16th street and Crawfordsville Rd is named speedway.

8. I can shed light on that... my family owns one of those
NC has been setteled and rural for so long, houses and towns have come and gone, but cemetaries stay.
NC also used to have a law prohibiting moving graces without a court order or something like that, so all the little cemetaries stayed where they were instead of getting moved to bigger ones like other places.

4. The Speedway Church is Great
and I absolutely beleive it exists.

There's apparently a church which sometimes refers to itself as the "Crystal Meth. Church." I like that.
