Poll question: DU Women Only...
Do you consider the Angelina Jolie/Jennifer Aniston thread "innocent fun" or do comments like, "The only way I'd pick Angelina is if she had a bag over her head" offend you?

1. I think the thread is innocent fun
but some of the comments go over the line.

7. My opinion as well.
It's innocent fun, but then there's always someone who has to take it to a lower level.

4. It doesn't offend me.
We could start our own about Brad Pitt vs. Billy Bob. Let me be the first to say, the only way I'd pick Billy Bob is if he had a bag over his head.

5. It doesn't bother me
Entertainers and people who make money from their looks are basically setting themselves up to be judged based on their looks, so no, it doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when individual whose looks are incidental to their occupation or position are judged solely on their looks (i.e., Madeline Albright, Janet Reno, Elizabeth Edwards, and on the other side of the aisle, Libby Dole and Katherine Harris). It also bugs me that there's a perception that women will take offense to these sorts of comments about other women, but not when these comments are made about men (either from women or men) or that men aren't also capable of being offended by these comments. Not that I'm trying to flame you.

6. No problem here
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 01:34 PM by stlchic
Why should I care about the celebrity droolings of anonymous people?

And to be fair, some of the responses in that thread in favor of Jolie do mention that she's more than a pretty face. In fact, I think that there was one post that exclusively mentioned her work with charity and international issues.

It's obviously a "just for fun" - thread, that is, unless there's actually people here that think there's a possibility they would ever have to make such a choice in the first place.

On Edit: It's quite curious that nobody who did have a problem with it has posted yet. To those who are offended - what's up?

11. IMO It's the insult comments

About how Angelina looks 'dirty' or what have you. It's one thing to state what your preference is and why (e.g. I prefer the girl next door look), but to disparage people is just rude. I think some people just have old fashioned manners.

And on edit, I voted offensive and responded earlier, too.

10. If I kept on worrying about the type of language
men used to describe what they thought about women, I'd never leave the house. Yes, I am offended, but I let it slide.

12. I think it is okay, personally
at least so far. Celebrities have to know when they become famous how some people will speak about them.
